First Sarah Palin Interview Goes to ABC News

2008_09_palinabc.jpgABC News has seemingly won the Sarah Palin interview sweepstakes, with the Republican vice presidential candidate agreeing to an interview with Charlie Gibson (timing TBD). The McCain-Palin campaign has denied that it is shielding the Alaska governor from the press, instead claiming that the media has been sexist and unkind in its scrutiny of Palin and saying she would be interviewed when "news media is going to treat her with some level of respect and deference." (Um, McCain campaign--please watch this Daily Show clip!) Related: Some Republican women are upset that Oprah won't interview Palin!

    I [sob] agree with babyhitler.

I remember his story about seeing Heath Ledger the day before he died. I have since attributed Leath's demise to his proximity to bh.

BH, you do have a death ray emanating from your steely eyes, don't you? Please, for the sake of all, turn your lethal gaze upon the Palin. Before it's too late.

Just you watch. If McCain somehow manages to win, the first time he has some kind of health scare, the Dow's going to drop about a thousand points.

  • babyhitler

#20- last time I checked, Vp's don't usually have bosses that are 73 years old come presidency time, been tortured, and have crazy cancer scares.

  • eyekantspel

@Dirk All the candidates use scripted speeches and teleprompters. Similarly, all the candidates weigh what kind of treatment they can expect from interviewers.

The debates will be the best opportunity to get candid moments.

Disclosure: I don't hate Palin; she's been in the spotlight 9 days. I'm willing to see how she does over the next month. yeah, I know she's anti-abortion, but last I checked, VPs don't get to set U.S. abortion policy.

  • grifforama

And if she tells me her son is being sent to Iraq on 9/11 one more frickin' time......

    plk779,

I'm with you in your hate for Sarah Palin.

Are you registering voters? Sign up for events at http://www.BarackObama.com

There are plenty of trips to PA this month for voter registration.

    :) Vanessa

I love it when the right plays the identity politics card on the left. Fire with fire.

  • takethecanoli

She could get reamed in the debates...it won't matter.

Her fans will only hear the words 'family, drill, troops, extremism, elite, hockey-mom, god' and soil themselves in joy.

I'd suggest we have a red/blue state civil war and secede, but they have all the grain and guns.

I have no words for the rage this woman and her party fills me with. Just a sort of howl of despair and fury.

Someone please make an "I HATE SARAH PALIN" t shirt already so I can buy 20.

  • Såkandulæredet

I don't think McCain is 'stealing' women votes with Palin. I think he's trying to get the republican, conservative women to vote who were going to stay at home before the Palin pick. It seems to be working too, unfortunately.

  • mccain picked her for one reason, to steal women voters and oil drilling in alaska. so fucking transparent.

  • malebranche99

Too bad we can't force the lot to face Tim Sebastian on BBC's Hardtalk. T'would be fun to watch them wriggle and dodge.

Palin in particular would have to invent an entirely new acrobatics...or physics, to evade betraying her simplistic truths.

From Miss Congeniality, creationist, moose hunter, book-censor, to 2nd in line to the throne. Sounds like a horrifying rewrite of Barry Lyndon.

    ... too bad.

I was really disappointed to hear that the first interview is being given to Charlie Gibson, considering the mess that he and George Stephanopoulos made of the Democratic debate back in the spring.

As much as I'd like to see Palin fall on her face in the debates, given that the expectations for her performance are really low, I fear that she'll get good press (NY Post, I'm looking at you) even if she barely makes it out alive.

  • MT

The Republicans make me sick. They are the height of hypocrisy. The chided Hillary Clinton for not taking it like a man and now they are lambasting everyone for being too hard on Palin. Give me a break your bunch of pansies. Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

  • babyhitler

She's gonna hold her downs kid up like the lion king to shield herself from any scrutiny.

  • Think2wice

Charlie Gibson: That first day, what do you think, it was 24 hours long?

Sarah Palin: [The] Bible says it was a day.

Gibson: Well, there was no sun out. How do you know how long it was?

Palin: The Bible says it was a day!

Gibson: Well, was it a normal day, a literal day, 24 hour day?

    Palin: I don't know.

Please remember that the Vice Presidential debates are not actually debates at all. A moderator or two ask questions and decides who to question.

So, the Biden-Palin debate is not really going to be an actual "debate," where two or more people argue and ask each other questions directly.

Too bad there is not going to be an actual debate. Biden could easily humiliate Palin and make her look like the empty suit she really is.

  • Mr Mel

The Republicans won't let her near the press, I don't know if part of the deal is Gibson has to submit his questions before the interview, but I wouldn't be surprised. This is where Tim Russert would have shined. They could not have avoided his interviewing of her and he would have asked all the right questions of Ms Palin. They're gonna scream unfair press for the rest of the campaign.

  • GOP

She will pwn Biden in the VP debate. Barracuda!

  • Dirk

Sounds like McCain/Palin are afraid of the press. Its one thing to give scripted speeches with teleprompters. It's quite another to have to think and answer questions on the cuff.

This whole thing is stupid. Palin is running for VP... she's not some celebrity with handlers.

  • Kojak

YAWN. More of the same shit we went through during the RNC as all of her questions will be most likely vetted by her campaign staff. The real test is during the Vice Presidential debates.
