Ewing Inducted into Hall of Fame

2008_09_ewinghof.jpgPatrick Ewing -- and some faces he probably found familiar -- got his much-deserved Hall of Fame induction Friday night in Springfield, Mass. Among those also being enshrined were Pat Riley, who coached Ewing and Hakeem Olajuwon, who won one of his two NBA titles at Ewing's expense. Ewing will partly be remembered for not winning a championship, but any Knicks fan who holds that -- a result that is much to blame on John Starks as anyone else -- doesn't appreciate what Ewing brought to the court. Ewing retired as the Knicks all-time leader in points, rebounds, steals, blocks and games played. Riley got in mostly for his time at the helm of the Lakers, but he's left his stamp on the Knicks and Heat. Ewing's decision to not wear pants earlier in the day was also a good move.

"Ewing's decision to not wear pants for the evening was also a good move."

Huh?

The glory years of the Knicks in the 90s.

Those times are not coming back anytime soon.

sorry - that was earlier in the day when he was wearing shorts. see linked article above.

I still haven't forgiven Riley for walking out on the Knicks.

"He came into town a great hero and leaves a cheap hypocrite, even if he does come with an expensive price tag. His resignation letter made it sound as if he had to leave the Knicks because of a struggle for power with Dave Checketts, president of the Knicks and president of the Garden. Lie. It is an outrageous lie, as a matter of fact. Anyone who has been around the Knicks for as long as an afternoon knows it...." --Mike Lupica

The glory years of the 90s Knicks = 0 Championships. The recent shit years of the Knicks = 0 Championships. Ewing should have never made it to the Hall of Fame. He's just in cause David Stern is a fan of NY. If Ewing played for The Milwaukee Bucks then his stats would not have gotten him into the HOF. This is bullshit.

1-Riley is a scumbag.
2-John Starks was willing to put the ball up in that game, nobody else was. He and Oak had the heart that no NBA team since, or ever in the future, will embody.
3-Ewing was a great player/Knick, until he refused to accept a role later on. Big man big ego. He deserves the hall.
4-the NBA sucks ass, and is full of criminals and thugs. it should be disbanded.
5-The Dolan family should be prosecuted for war crimes against NYC.

Even though the Knicks didn't win any championships in the 90s at least the public knew they have a chance to win every night and be a playoff team.

The Knicks of the past few years know they're going to lose every before taking the court.

Patrick Ewing and Don Mattingly are my two favorite all-time NY athletes....both gave their heart and souls to the game and their teams. And both of them came so close to winning the championships they deserved.

I am very happy for Patrick Ewing and only hope that Donnie Baseball will make it to the Hall one day too.

Man, Knicks fans are so sad that they cling to shitty false hope teams like the ewing knicks. You've become pre 2004 red sox fans. The fans that used to look up to mediocre red sox teams from the past that got close but then choked. Now that the red sox won twice, those memories have become real and the sox only think about the 2 championship teams and everything else up to that point was absolute failure. If the Knicks ever won a championship in the next 50 years, ewing would be forgotton and left at the side of the road to die like the missed finger roll choker that he is.

Fuck you Ewing-you sucked for years. Offenses were created for you-padding your stats. For such a big guy you played a small game. Those Knick teams from the 90s also were known for their thuggish, brawling behavior. You couldn't beat Jordan's Bulls-with InvisiBILL Cartwright in the paint. Blame in on Riley, Starks, Charles Smith-you NEVER won shit in the pros. NOTHING-you do NOT belong in the Hall.

Dag, all this haterade for the 90's Knicks. I always wanted to see them win a championship back then, but you know what? It was a lot more fun watching MJ and Pippen do it.

Patrick Ewing was a gentleman and a warrior and his induction is well-deserved. He played against some of the greatest players EVER to play the game. Yes, the Knicks came up short. Do you think anyone wanted a championship more than Ewing? He played hurt and he played with heart and soul every day and night. That is more than can be said for the current roster.

I love how Ewing is still the villain after all these years. Ewing was, in is prime years, surrounded by great guys with average talent. Compare that with say...the Yankees. It's been 8 years and no WS and no one is bitching about Derek Jeter not having the heart of champion and he is surrounded by an All-Star roster.
