the people voted for it twice. The politicos will now repeal it anyway. Another example of why any talk of democracy is utter bullshit. A million peoples votes don't count as much as one person with billion dollars.

But Koppell is ready to take the lead in extending the eight-year limit to twelve; he tells City Room that limits “cut off people’s careers in politics, which makes no sense.” Isn't that the point, to prevent politicians from making a career of becoming dead weight on the city council?

Politicians introducing legislation for a raise is one thing. But introducing legislation to extend your term limits because your ego has been damaged is another.

they're all crooked - if they want to overturn the law, then make the new one effective starting two terms from now, going forward. this would eliminate some of the stink of impropriety.

I wish we had term limits in the House and Senate. Both are starting to ressemble the House of Lords. Let them do their 4 - 6 years then go back out into the real world and try to eek out a living in the private sector like most of us. That goes for both parties.

It makes sense because it puts an end to a corrupt politician with a grip on apathetic voters. Sometimes you gotta protect democracy from itself. Just because the current one isn't corrupt, doesn't mean the next one won't be.
