WNBC reports that 66-year-old Nick Nowillo died after a confrontation with an attacker on Crescent Avenue in Long Island City. The 43-year-old attacker, who was arrested but not identified, allegedly hit Nowillo several times, including punching him so hard that he died at Astoria General Hospital later. Nowillo, who had been escorting a woman home because she felt the suspect "was...acting strangely" in the street, was a beloved figure in the neighborhood, nicknamed the "Mayor of Long Island City."

If the woman felt threatened, she should have called the police.
Mr Nowillo was 66 years old and even if he was fit how easily could he ward off a much younger man who might have been crazy.
Our warmest blessings to you, the Nowillo Khan family, My god you all have been through so much this year. Your father, Nick, now Joins his grandchild, who is so missed and I am sure that they both watch over your family. Nick is a hero in my eyes. It is so sad, such a brave act, ended in such cruelty.
Our Love and Blessing, the Weaver Family.
So, I spoke with the victim's daughter this afternoon and the family is in need of financial help with the funeral. The victim's daughter, Sandra, lost her 3 year old in February and the family is going through alot today - 2 significant losses in the past 7 months. She said that all monetary donations would be greatly appreciated to help with the burial.
So, please help and show your support for a neighbor! Sandra requested that I post her address and noted that the family will be home today, Sept. 5th, to accept donations in person or you may choose to send it via snail mail:
All checks should be made out to the victim's wife, "Dora Nowillo"
