Ingenious, Illegal Way to Beat Tolls

2008_09_plate.jpgThe Port Authority stopped a tractor-trailer when its driver made its license plate disappear on the Goethals Bridge. How? According to the Daily News, Orland Payano "had a cable running from the license plate to the dashboard cigarette lighter." When the lighter is manipulated, the front plate is tucked away. (The rear plate was "bent, partially concealing its markings.") A PA officer noticed that the plate disappeared and Payano was charged with fare evasion and license plate destruction. The driver, however, tells the News, "It's not true," and says he has EZ Pass. The fare on the Goethals is $40.

This reminded me of the new KITT.

    lol @ this guy.

I remember going to car shows when I was younger and seeing cars with this kind of setup. One guy with a BMW had a push button that would make the plate come out of the top of his bumper.

#3- MythBusters proved that spray on shit wrong.

This guy's like James Bond. What about that stuff that you spray on that's supposed to hide your plates from cameras? Does that work? I like to get right on the bumper of the guy in front of me in the EZ Pass lane and then go through with him when the arm goes up. It probably doesn't save money but it isn't illegal either. I can't stand people who stop and wait for the arm to go down and then up again. Just go.

Commercial licenses can be revoked for much more minor offenses than a standard driver's license (though this doesn't appear to qualify), and all offenses must be reported to the employer. With all of that considered, it may not be worth the risk.

This is so great! Cost/benefit analysis at its finest. Gary Becker would be proud my friend!

This guy saved himself $200 a week with a simple rig. How much is the fine $500? $1,000? $2,000? The fine is easily covered over the course of few weeks/months and seriously what are the odds he would get caught?
