"For all you partisan democrats bashing Lieberman, what ever happened to the "dissent is patriotism" cliche I keep hearing? Apparently, not when the dissent is aimed at your own Stalinist orthodoxy.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!

The current administration has excelled at one thing only: demonstrating their insane, monomaniacal insistence on loyalty, blind, unwavering loyalty, to the Learder, George W. Bush. Ane now a right wingnut wants to come online here and tell US about dissent? Wants to tell US about "Stalinist orthodoxy"?

Pallyboy... I took my MA in 20th Century History/Political Science. You have no idea of what you are talking about, and you have not a clue as to who Stalin was or what he stood for, or you would find a much more apt comparison with the Cheney/Bush White House than with any Democrat alive today.

Idiot!

No one disputes that Obama votes with the party. However, McCain is attempting to claim that he is not largely supportive of George Bush policies. The 95% number technically only applies to 2007, per Congressional Quarterly. The 90% number comes from McCain's own claims, which are now being spun as misstatements and exaggerations.

I'm not spinning anything, and I haven't heard this discrepancy addressed anyplace else. I also have no idea what the actual number should be, and have no doubt that it's a good percentage. I just don't understand why they would each address the point in such important speeches, on consecutive nights, and use different number. That's not spin, it's a fact- check the transcripts.

As far as I'm concerned, it's probably not important if it is 90 or 95%, but the Biden and Obama folks should have decided which number to use beforehand. It is obviously a key point in tying McCain to Bush, so I was surprised that they did that.

Is there a source for the 95% being based on the 2007 Congressional Quarterly? Because the context for the use of either number in the speeches was not for a single year, but overall. By any chance, do you know what the overall percentage is?

Joe, the would-be-VP for Al Gore won (a few) points for making them applaud Bill Clinton's Presidency.

Joe, personally I wish you (and Shyeldun Silvah) would eat pork and die, but that deliciously ironic mind-fuck of the GOP made me pine for happier days.

wow, even though all conventions are just for show, the speakers at the dnc at least attempted to say clearer things about the problems that need to be remedied and possible future policies. the rnc was pure regurgitated b.s. g.o.p rhetoric that appealed to the lowest common denominator in the dumbest ways conceivable.

and "SARAH PAWLENTY"??? did i mishear that?

and anybody who believes in the myth of the "liberal media" needs to read more instead of spewing the same ol' line. there is no liberal media. outlets like npr and pbs like being evenhanded, doing research, and presenting facts. those qualities burn the conservatives like holy water.

I noticed the '90' and '95' number being tossed around as well. Though when Obama used it - he would say "Over 90%" while the others would say "95%" - which to me kind of sounds the same, as 95% is over 90%.

"When democrats reach across the aisle, the screeching leftist moonbats go beserk."

Did you miss the Right's reaction to McCain's immigration bill? The extremists on all sides do not like compromise. That's simply the nature of extremism.

"In Lieberman's case, he took a principled stand on one issue and got booted out of the party."

Firstly, it wasn't because of his stand on Iraq. There are many other Democrats who support Iraq. Second, it wasn't just Iraq that was a problem. He did not agree with the party on many issues. The main sticking point, though, was Lieberman's co-opting of right-wing memes, with shit like "we undermine presidential credibility at our nation’s peril".

oh, for goodness sake.

Lieberman is friend of McCain, and appreaciates that McCain, like Lieberman, has shown time and again that he's willing to work with people from across the aisle to get things done.

In Obama's acceptance speech, he said that McCain voted with George Bush 90% of the time. The day before, Biden said that McCain voted with Bush 95% of the time. No one seemed to notice or care that the 2 used a different number on what is obviously a key talking point - check the transcripts at NYtimes.com or any other source. Obama's limited voting record shows he has voted on party lines 97% of the time.

People like Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Ted Kennedy know and agree that McCain has worked with them, despite being a Republican, to get things done. That probably isn't going to get him elected in a year when the mood is anti-Republican and the Democrats have a charismatic candidate, but it is certainly an important aspect of the type of politician McCain is.

Lieberman, who 8 short years ago was the Democratic VP pick, is not a traitor. He is a principled man, who stands by those he believes in even when it isn't popular to do so. He WILL pay a political price for it in terms of his relationship with his own party, and will likely lose his position as Chair of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs as a result. His speech might not win him any popularity from those prone to knee-jerk reactions, but it was one of the bravest things I've seen in a while. You don't often see politicians at his level willing to stand for what they believe when it comes at such a political cost.

"...how hypocritical of you to talk about bipartisanship."

I'm no hypocrite. When have you ever heard me extoll the virtues of bi-partisanship? All it means is that both parties are screwing you instead of just one. I prefer the parties to be adverserial, it's better for democracy.

In Lieberman's case, he took a principled stand on one issue and got booted out of the party. He's probably the only democrat not on the George Soros payroll.

this isn't an issue of bipartisanship, even republicans have reported how much more willing the democrat led houses of congress have been about reaching across party lines.

joe lieberman is zell miller all over again, a moonbat who's realized it's much more loony on the other side.

Bi-partisanship is only considered good, noble or desirable when it's the republicans accomodating democrats, never the othe way around.

When democrats reach across the aisle, the screeching leftist moonbats go beserk.

For all you partisan democrats bashing Lieberman, what ever happened to the "dissent is patriotism" cliche I keep hearing? Apparently, not when the dissent is aimed at your own Stalinist orthodoxy.

Lieberman would make a pact with Satan himself if that helped to keep a blackman out of the Whitehouse.

Oh wait, that's exactly what he did already.

P.S. Lieberman's agenda is so clear and obvious, he needs to cut the B.S. and just move to Israel already. Every political move he's made since 9/11 has been w/Israel in mind, so why not just make it official.

It is b/c of people like Lieberman , who settle into vicious Jewish stereotypes like they were a comfortable old recliner, that the majority of Jews have to put up with stupid conspiracy theories and accusations that we care more about Israel than the U.S.

Lieberman is a disgrace. He's sold his party out just b/c of his maniacal hatred for and obsessive fear of Arabs and Persians.

The only reason he's with the Republicans now is b/c he knows republicans love to kill Arabs and can't wait to start killing Persians. And Lieberman never met a dead Arab or dead Persian he didn't love.

These conventions haven't been relevant for thirty years. It is just Kabuki theatre and a chance for the members of the media to party and the delegates to get wined, dined and swagged by various pressure groups. Just stick everything on C-SPAN, send one reporter per news outlet, in case something actually happens like an errant Russian piece of space junk crashes into the arena or something equally unlikely.

Joe Lieberman is a traitor to the United States, he does not care about its' national security. The non winning war has only weaken the U.S. military and its standing globally. Joe Lieberman's main interest is wiping the Arabs of the face of the earth. This man lost the primary of Connecticut as a democrat and reran as an independent. No respect for the constitution and for the american people. TRAITOR Lieberman

Man, this was even more boring than the first night of the DNC. It looked like Bingo Night at the senior center rec lounge. So many oldies. It was wall to wall white people, old white people and older white people. At least the DNC had some color and youth. Joe Lieberman talks like Orville Redenbacher. I thought he was going to sell me super buttery popcorn. I was on the fence about voting but after the spectacular Denzel speech Obama gave and how goddamn boring the RNC speakers are and McCain picking a elisabeth hasslebeck clone there can only be one choice. Shaft.
