Lady Who Falsely Claimed There Was Bomb on Plane Pays Up

2008_09_baez.jpgRemember the lady who tried to argue her way onto a plane last April by bringing up her already checked bags: "What if I had a bomb in my bag? Well, I have a bomb in my bag, so are you guys going to turn the plane around cuz I need my bag" Well, Rosalinda Baez ended up paying JetBlue $23,000 for the plane's emergency landing (they had to be safe, of course). And though the fake bomb charges were dropped, business consultant Baez pleaded guilty to pot possession--there was a "very small quantity of marijuana residue" on her. The Post adds that she "glared at the prosecutor and rolled her eyes repeatedly during yesterday's plea" and could face up to 6 months at sentencing.

Aaaahahahahahahahahahahahahah........what a knob.

Some people are just natural born idiots...

The moron misses her flight and tries to turn the plane around by telling them there's a bomb on board. Have fun in jail!

i love that she seems to think the prosecutor is somehow in the wrong here.

She's lucky she's going to jail. If I were on that plane, she'd also be getting a swift ass-kicking.

Keep in mind, the fake bomb charges were dropped and she was just in court for the drug charges.

"The moron misses her flight and tries to turn the plane around by telling them there's a bomb on board. Have fun in jail!"

It's not likely that she'll spend any time in jail. The serious charges were dropped, and it's extremely rare for anyone who can afford to hire a good lawyer and pay a healthy fine to be jailed on a misdemeanor pot conviction. A no-jail sentence is almost certainly part of her plea agreement.

what does a business consultant do? besides salesmanship to get that consultant gig.

She should be black listed from ever flying again.

You know, this could be a great story. It's a story about an asshole. A complete asshole who is put out there for the the world to see. And she finally realizes what an immense asshole really she is. And she goes into court and says,"Your honor, ladies and gentlemen of the court, I am truly sorry for inconveniencing so many people and for being such a gigantic asshole." And you know what happens? People don't think she's an asshole any more!

But no. You see, that doesn't happen in the real world.

Without questioning that what she said was stupid, I think it's crazy that the people who run security are unable to differentiate between someone who makes a stupid remark because they're annoyed about missing a flight and someone who is a legitimate threat.

[12] It's because the people who "run" our "security" are utter imbeciles. I could tell you stories that would have you rolling in the aisles for hours. It's job security for them. Any time they can catch a "criminal," it justifies their continuing employment. I am not kidding when I say I suspect many of them have IQs below 100. Horror stories about the TSA's stupidity and mistreatment of travelers are a dime a dozen. A dime a gross, even.

12 and 13. They don't differentiate because it's not their job to do so. But, you are exactly right. We should make people we think are "utter imbeciles" differentiate between what comments are legitimate and what comments aren't. When someone says "i put a bomb on that plane," we should give someone who's main function is to put boarding passes through an automatic reader the authority to judge whether that person is telling the truth or not before we bring that plane to the ground. Genius.

This eye rolling bitch needs a good dose of empty bank account before she changes her ways. Wait, what was that sound? It was just the world revolving around Rosalinda Baez. Can you tell how much I hate people like this?

I think that joking or not, we need to play it safe. No one did anything wrong here but HER. I am sure that the people on that plane would not have wanted to stay in the air if they know that joke was made. They would have wanted to play it safe.

Anyone who takes this event as a chance to bash airport security is a fucking retard.

Lay off! She wuz tryin' to be sassy.

*is not racist.

Thought you would all enjoy her attempt at defending herself here:

I'll admit that I've been confused by B6's shuttle situation at JFK, but I was always adult enough to sort it out.

Bottom line, if you're at the airport in enough time to have your bag checked, your only excuse for missing the flight is your own stupidity.

But the logic does make sense - if someone buys a ticket and checks a bag (but doesnt get on the plane shouldnt they remove the bag?) what if she did have a bomb on her bag...

I think the airlines need to rethink the way they accept baggage (perhaps redesign the airplane to have double deckers just for people while all baggage goes in just a baggage plane in front of them...

On the other hand, she is completely right. The TSA are fools and unqualified. Of course, that isn't really a reason to justify claiming there is a bomb on board.

abcohen - IIRC, once the door closed, the manifest is checked and the bags checked by any people not on the plane are removed.

A dime a gross makes no fucking sense. A gross is 144.

This broad is an asshole (as noted above). I would have thrown three books at her.

"I am sure that the people on that plane would not have wanted to stay in the air if they know that joke was made. They would have wanted to play it safe."

Not me -- as much as both the government and the media attempt to fuel it, I have no "terrorismphobia." There's been one day in what, the past decade, on which any serious security incident that would have put my life in danger occurred on a US-originating flight.

If I'd heard that exchange as it happened, I'd have wanted to be on the plane, on my way. Without her.

"They don't differentiate because it's not their job to do so."

Exactly. In fact, it's their job to report that or any other violation of the law to law enforcement officers. This is clearly against the law, and has been since long before 9/11... there've even been signs advising against making even joking references posted at security lines for years.

The responding police officers are the ones, then, who have the authority to decide whether to make an arrest or not. Probably in this case they decided to do so mostly because of the attitude they were faced with.
