After Brutal Accident, Tim Price Needs Help to Get to School

2008_09_tprice.jpgThe State Island Advance has a heartbreaking yet inspirational story about a young man really looking forward to the new school year at Fordham University's Lincoln Center campus. Except Tim Price was run over by an Access-a-Ride minibus and "dragged 40 feet" earlier this year ("His right leg had been shattered, both clavicles broken, and his face and back severely burned") and now walks with a limp and uses a cane. His mom can't take him from S.I. to Fordham--she has two jobs--and hasn't found an affordable car service (boarding at Fordham is too expensive, too), so Price might have to...turn to Access-A-Ride for transportation. However, the honors student says, "I don't know if I could psychologically handle that." He is also suing NYC Transit, the Access-a-Ride vehicle's owner, and the driver for damages. An unofficial poll of NYers indicates they think Access-a-Ride drivers are some of the worst.

    Hello,

I am Tim Price's Aunt. I came across this forum regarding the recent newspaper article about Tim featured in the Staten Island Advance. Thanks to all of you for your support and for actually getting it! If there are any corporate sponsors and/or individuals who would like to make a contribution for Tim's transportation, please e-mail Frank Donnelly, the reporter from the Staten Island Advance who interviewed Tim for this article, at his e-mail address fdonnelly@siadvance.com. If anyone out there knows Tim, I would love for you to post a comment. For those of you who don't know Tim, I can assure you he is one brave guy! Please keep your fingers crossed that he gets some help with transportation so that he can continue his education at Fordham. Thanks for taking the time to read my comment.

I thought I was the only one who thinks the Access a ride drivers were the worst (followed closely by black car drivers).

Not only should there be a fund to help him with this dilemma, but Fordham ought to find a way to help him with housing. People donate to that school, why would they be so stingy?

  • JenChungsBaby

I HATE those fucking access a ride drivers! I thought I'd be the only one to say it but others have beaten me to it.

Remember a few years ago when they found the access-a-ride was being controlled by members of the mob? Figures they would find a way to funnel poorly managed government funds.

I hope he wins his case and is able to take something better than that blue and white chariot of death to school.

does anyone know if the family has a donation set up to help fun housing/transportation?

  • starrygordon

I am not sure Access-a-ride drivers are the very worst; I think there might be a tie for worst with limo drivers. And those phony armored trucks aren't far behind. But, really, Something Ought To Be Done. Where does Access-a-ride's money come from?

  • pazzia

yes, i saw one today approaching a stop sign and beeping... because another car was about to drive on the cross street. i had a strong feeling the access-a-ride driver didn't know how to use a stop sign.

    Worst drivers ever!

Or maybe they are the best drivers ever maneuvering those oversized converted vans like sports cars.

    Poor guy.

  • drewo

It's official - Access-A-Ride are the worst. Not long ago I saw one drive an entire block off the West Side Highway in the low 20's in the wrong direction.
