My GF lives in Sunset Park and it's killing me that all they have is dunkin donuts. I need a starbucks. Not necessarily to drink in but knowing that if I needed to I could.

But for that extra $2.75 at Starbucks you don't have to feel like you're wasting some ghetto hoochie mama's time as she rolls her eyes when taking your order then shuffles off to take as long as possible to pour your coffee which may or may not have been spit in just cause 'you a cracka'.

Starbucks is crap! I still do not know why people go there when there is good coffee elsewhere....... and don't say that there is not any other choice because this town has tons of choices when it comes to coffee. The best coffee in my neighborhood comes from a little deli and is $1.25 for a large. I am a serious coffee hound and can honestly say that it is better than most coffee around.

I don't think we should focus on Brooklyn as a whole. Starbucks is trying to focus on the hipster/yuppie population as they are more likely able (or stupid enough) to pay for $4 coffee. If there is a map showing the distribution of Starbucks vs Dunkin Donuts, that's enough to tell the whole story.

DD hot coffee is pretty good but their iced coffee is mediocre and not really any cheaper than Starbucks.

Unlike Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts are franchises so they are also locally owned and operated. Don't any of these studies into chains account for that? Perhaps in today's environment, some people prefer going the franchise route with a known brand than trying to start a mom and pop store from scratch? DD definitely has working class roots and has used the same coffee formula for 50 years - I've brewed it at home (where you can adjust strength) and have had coffee snobs comment on what good coffee it was before I told them it was DD. Ha!

I agree not everyone wants $4 lattes, but Dunk Donuts small regular coffee at 1.50 is still a bit high for regular coffee that you can get cheaper at a bodega.

Considering that the vast majority of the 2.5 Million people who live in Brooklyn are NOT hipsters who live in Park Slope, DUMBO, Williamsburg, etc etc etc, this does not come as a surprise.
