Last Night's Action: Hooking the Marlins

Mets 6, Marlins 2: Both times a team in this series suffered a crushing loss, it came back to win the next day. After Friday's deflating loss, the Marlins won Saturday on a walk-off walk. Pedro Martinez helped the Mets in Sunday's rubber game. He turned in six strong winnings, striking out four and walking one. Three solo homers -- from Carlos Beltran, Nick Evans and then David Wright -- helped the Mets erase a 2-0 first-inning deficit. Normally they are the ones jumping out quickly and trying to hang on. But not this time. The bullpen even managed to put together three scoreless innings. Wow! The Mets face Milwaukee this week, though they miss CC Sabathia, who threw a one-hitter Sunday.

Blue Jays 6, Yankees 2: By the time Andy Pettitte gave up three runs in the first inning, Roger Federer's tennis match a few channels over looked a lot more appealing. Sure, the Steinbrenners own the Yankees, but people could be forgiven for saying Roy Halladay does. He has four wins against the Yankees this season and a 2.50 ERA. That's why this game was effectively over in the first inning.

At the U.S. Open, Federer, Andy Roddick, Jelena Jankovic and Elena Dementieva were all among the favorites to win. Federer, the four-time defending champ has won 30 straight matches in Flushing. He and Roddick would meet in the semifinal only if Roddick gets past Novak Djokovic, who beat Marin Cilic in the night session.
