Sam Champion Involved in Car Accident on the LIE

Good Morning America weatherman Sam Champion is recovering with minor scrapes and bruises after what could have been a serious accident involving a jackknifed trailer yesterday along the LIE. Champion was headed to eastern Long Island after Friday's show when the accident happened between Exit 39, Glen Cove Road, and Exit 40, Jericho Turnpike, in Old Westbury. "I was looking down and Brian, the driver, said, 'Look out.' He hit the brakes really hard. "I remember thinking, 'This is bad. This is bad. This is really, really bad!" Champion told WABC. The accident caused hours of delays; Champion was likely headed out to the Hamptons before he flies to New Orleans to cover Hurrican Gustav.
