But why don't people go to Coney Island on staycation anymore? I stopped by a few weeks ago. Gorgeous 80-ish, sunny Saturday afternoon and the beach was 3/4 empty.

Why travel? It seems as if (these days) the whole world is coming to New York. And, in particular, coming right to my neighborhood - Nolita.

I prefer to suck it up and work all summer (while my collegues take time off). Then I skip town after Labor Day when the beaches are a bit less crowded.

The stay cay has been pretty awesome actually. There's a bunch of things that I've always wanted to see but for some reason or another just never have.

So I took the SO to see Bethesda fountain in Central Park & got mistaken for tourists. Last week we waited in line for the yummiest frozen fun at the Brooklyn Ice Cream factory, then we walked over the Brooklyn Bridge for the first time. Walked over to SS seaport, drank a beer, dodged rats, ate Mc D's @ 1am. It was awesome.

This afternoon we're hitting the MoMA, then Belvedere castle in Central Park :) maybe rent a row boat on the lake and have an early dinner on the water.

Planning a day trip out to the vineyards.... seriously, NY is AWESOME! I've lived here my whole life and I become more convinced every day. ENJOY YOUR STAYCAY!

I hate traveling in summer. Anywhere worth going is usually crowded and more expensive.

I also have been taking so-called "Staycations" for years. New York is filled with some of the best museums, restaurants, parks, beaches, and shopping around. I could pay a lot of money to travel and do these things elsewhere, but half the time I'm wandering around thinking that I could get the same stuff (only better) back in New York.

I usually take one of these around Christmastime to do my shopping, enjoy the holiday fares, go ice skating and stuff like that. It's fun!

Staycations are great, even for one day. Putter, walk a little more leisurely, and yes, thin out the DVR backlog or finally watch those Netflix movies you've been putting off.

Cost of travel has little to do with it. Flying is torture.

i've been taking staycations for years, because i rarely have the scratch to travel. one of the best reasons to staycation in new york city is that one can finally get in to restaurants and museums that are normally too overcrowded. this weekend i plan to go for long walks, linger in the sculpture garden at MoMA, and spend a lot of time cooking and thinning out the backlog on my DVR.
