Grits With All the Fixins at Kitchenette!

082908larvae.jpgFinish your lunch before reading further; Eater has received a nauseating email from a diner who found a little something extra in her bowl of grits at Tribeca's Kitchenette: "Halfway through my friend's grits, she noticed a worm on her spoon. When we combed through the bowl, however, we found that the entire portion was filled with worms and larvae. It was atrocious." Wait, it gets better – the server offered to bring them a new bowl of grits (which they declined) but still charged them! (Understandable; in some places they charge extra.) "We asked our server if there was anything that could be done. He said he would have to speak with his manager. When she came over, she said the following, 'Look, this is just what happens with grits or any bag of meal or oats. I eat this stuff all the time, and this is just what happens. It's not like it's going to kill you.'" Kitchenette: Not Killing Customers for 15 years! (Reached by phone, the manager said she had not heard about the incident.)

I would have sat there and made the mgr eat every bite. I would have also called the cops and say they were forcing me to pay for spolied food, and also called the health dept right there before I left. Outrageous. Hopefully this will make it out to larger audiences like the tv news

I can put that one on the "do not need to eat there" list.

that's disgusting but it does happen all the time to my cereal. where the hell do these things come from?

With your economy tanking the way it is Americans should get used to eating worms.

At that point, I would have said: "This has disgusted me. I want my entire meal for free, not just the grits -- you can take this to your manager -- and if that request is declined, I will shout out, at top volume, to every other patron of this restaurant that "Kitchenette's grits have worms in them. It's okay, though, it happens all the time!"

Okay, granted, that's basically what this post just did, but in person it'd be sooooooo much more fun.

Mmmm Mealworms. This is a delicacy in some places. Kitchenette is just being avante garde

this story is disgusting. find link to email the restaurant here:

Isn't it great that that manager just threw away a restaurant business? Goodbye, Kitchenette.

listen you idiots, anyone who has a problem with the manager or owners or something could easily make up this story and a non-reputable news source like a blog called gothamist will post it.

it's so funny how easily people can just believe anything on the internet.

Hey, a few worms in your food never harmed anyone.

I feel violated having introduced my family to Kitchenette-- Uptown--and recommending it to others.

That is absolutely disgusting, but I'm also not surprised. The Kitchenette on Chambers St. had been closed by the DOH last year. The food was mediocre at best anyway.
