All has been silent on the stabby front in the South Side of Williamsburg. Metro now takes a look at the incidents, which have been going on since April of this year, and have often involved machetes (possibly wielded by the gang called Trinitarios). The paper reports that the 90th Precinct has "experienced the sharpest rise in crime since last year of any neighborhood in Brooklyn," coming in at 13.49% (as a comparison, the 94th precinct--which includes Williamsburg's North Side and Greenpoint--has seen a 6.38% rise in crime). City councilwoman Diana Reyna told Metro, “We don’t want to overstate the problem. But if we don’t do something, we’re going to have serious problems.”

It is actually pretty pathetic watching these cops chase around these kids. There was another 'incident' last night at the S3rd (bedford and Berry) park. There were cop cars/van/even those stupid one man thingies EVERYWHERE - driving down one ways the wrong way, stopping the gas pedal, racing around the block OVER AND OVER. Do you think one of them actually got OUT of the car? NO.

This is serious. Just few months ago, my dad witnessed a stabbing right on my block. He initially thought is was just two kids beating up on this one kid, but in the morning he saw people cleaning the blood off the side walk. There are also lot of shootings these past six months.
Yeah, I HATE yuppies and hipsters to. I like uneducated, immoderate and criminal prone people.

This way, we cull the population, survival-of-the-fittest style, and also curb crime, since chances are there are at least a few hipsters who'll learn to fight or get in a lucky shot and take out a few scumbags. Everybody wins.
Until the hipsters, lean and hungry after defeating their archenemies, swarm out of the hipster ghettos to form a super army of douches. Everyone will have to wear skinny jeans, as camouflage, and, well, you know. General societal collapse and whatnot.
You people who constantly comment about Williamsburg hipsters in these circumstances obviously don't live here. I live on the south side, and yeah there are a few young skinny pant wearing youngsters, but most of the community is still primarily hispanic sprinkled with a few new thirty something professionals who own some of the new businesses around and older artists. I think it sad that you won't give up on this stereotype mtv has created for you. Real people live here and watching gangs beat the shit out of each other with baseball bats outside your window isn't fun. It's a real problem we haven't seen since the 80's in this area.
Agreed with the above. Once you wander a few streets away from the Bedford and Lorimer stops, the hipster quotient falls away sharply and used-CD stores give way to Latin music stores. I lived on South 4th and Hooper for a year, and while the gangs and I had an uneasy "Whitey will leave you alone if you leave whitey alone" truce, looking out the window at 2:00 AM to see a full-on gang war in the street is...uncomfortable. This has nothing to do with hipsters and everything to do with the fact that these are poor, angry people for whom gang life is an easy trap.
I bitch about hipsters as much or more than the next person and avoid Bedford Avenue like it was covered with Sars, but even I can't blame this on the skinny-jeans.

Why would anyone want to live there in the FIRST FUCKING PLACE!!!!!!! Move the fuck out already. What keeps anyone in an area where they feel terrorized-sheer fucking stupidity. This area was never a great area to begin with. People flocked to it because it was cheap, filthy, and close to Manhattan-the NEW IMPROVED LOWER EAST SIDE-hooray!!!!! Is there anyone who remembers the Grand Concourse in the Bronx back in the late 60s early 70s? That was a BEAUTIFUL area that fell to shit. Williamsburg was always for shit-an industrial dump with projects in it. I don't want anyone to get stabbed or injured. To expect the criminal element, that has always existed there, to just stick their respective heads in the sand is plain stupid. They see suckers streaming into town-easy pickins...
If you don't like Williamsburg don't visit Williamsburg. We don't need you, or your uneducated comments. Stay in your mom's basement apartment scrolling through Facebook.
