Obama's Stage Gets Post Cover

2008_08-otemple.jpgThe NY Post devotes today's cover to the elaborate stage being built for Barack Obama's Democratic presidential nomination acceptance today in Denver. The Post proclaims, BARACK OBAMA'S TEMPLE OF DEMOCRATS ON MT. O-LYMPUS, noting that it was "built by the same cheesy set team that put together Britney Spears' last tour." John McCain's campaign calls it "Temple of Obama," blasts the candidate for being too lofty, telling the Post, "We would have expected to read something like this in The Onion. Fortunately for us, it's true. Unfortunately for Obama, it's true." Even the NY Times notes how the Democratic party is trying to "minimize the stadiums political risks," because they want the event to feel intimate...in a football stadium.

The vestal virgins tasked with keeping the flame going were whisked away by Secret Service and questioned. It appears Elliott Spitzer's trying to crash the event again.

Obama's megalomania has finally gone full blown.

Too bad Leni Riefenstahl isn't around to film this.

  • AMANWITHANEDGE

McCain =$9/gallon gasoline and 10-20% inflation and no services. Your taxes will continue to rise and he and his cronies will continue to steal them.

    McCain welfare:

$68,000/year in tax free disability from the US Government

$23,000/year in Social Security from the US Government

$167,000/year in Senate Salary from the US Government

    Net worth:$100 Million

    Annual income:$6 Million

Cindy McCain: stole drugs from a medical charity but never entered the rehab she was required to in lieu of prosecution.

John McCain: collaborated with the Vietcong which is why so many veterans HATE him.

  • The problem for Democrats is that the GOP is usually better at campaigns that can be distilled down to one symbolic moment or issue. They, especially the Bush family and advisors, also are better at political knife fights. Bush 41 had Lee Atwater and Dukakis's tank and Willie Horton and 43 has Rove and they have at least three war heroes in their wake that had their character assassinated in the name of an election.

Now, Rove and his ilk are in McCain's ear whispering that Obama is ''different'' from us because of his lippy wife and the crazy minister. The result is a close election that should be a rout.

The columns are obviously meant to evoke the image of the seat of our government but the McCain folks can make it into some sort of elitist stage performance. The GOP convention stage has a background consisting of a massive American flag. Simple. Effective.

I'm not sure when the DNC will get it.

It's going to be even funnier when he walks out in a toga for his acceptance speech.

I wonder if the McCain camp and rightwing hacks had a meeting trying to decide, "do we go with the Mt. Olympus argument or he's copying Bush at the 2004 Republican Convention?" Because, Bush also has a nice little temple behind him when he gave his acceptance speech as shown here:

Indeed the Obama camp has been guilty of tremendous hubris. This is the latest example of just what a cult of personality the entire Obama campaign is.

However, draft-dodging National Guard no-show George W. Bush dressed as a fighter pilot and landing on the U.S.S. Lincoln in an F-18 was far more arrogant and insulting. What's worse is that it was done on the taxpayer's dime.

The onion he's talking about must be the one on his belt.. you know, that one that was the style at the time he was born.

  • JacqueMehoff

mccain smells like an onion and his teeth are full of oniony goodness. don't get me started on his pointy fingers.

  • soopaman

Stupid Oboma-bots!! The media has pulled off a great trick. Fill the air waves with Oboma crap and they will follow. When he loses it gives everyone another reason to bitch and moan for 4 more years.

  • VanessaNYC

    Republicans:

"Fuck. The people of America really like this guy... Shit. McCain could never draw a crowd of 70,000! So seriously, regular old Americans are willing to drive for hours, through several states, just to hear this guy talk about freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Fuck. What are we gonna do? I guess we can call him Paris Hilton and make fun of Greek architecture?? ... I dunno."

  • babyhitler

McCain wasn't talking about the Onion Newsmag he was talking about a talking Onion that speaks to him cause He's senile and fucking OLD! 72 motherfucking years old! He'll be 77 near the end of his term. Reagan was only 70 and he actually looked a lot healthier and younger than McCain. Never trust old people! They use lots of drugs and not for recreation.

  • TK

ya, it definitely recalls Athenian democracy where only "citizens" (read: wealthy males of proven ancestry) held any power

  • Politburo

"built by the same cheesy set team"

"Cheesy"? That was really the best word they could come up with?

  • Anna_Merkin

So the GOP is being churlish as usual.

This is so ridiculous and indicative of the sad state of most media coverage these days, just as the houses crap, the "I'm proud of my country" garbage, and the Paris-Britney commercial received airtime.

What would have been better, plain columns or a green background? So utterly idiotic yet there will be large numbers of Americans eager to lap it up as one more excuse not to vote for the "uppity Negro." I'm disappointed but not surprised that the MSM is spending time on this, since they no longer have the drama about what Hillary did or did not say and Bill put the questions to rest.

  • moocow

no, i think that has more to do with the fact that he and the wife have so much dough, that having many homes is no biggie - unlike the lowly non-gajillionaires who pay 30% of their income in taxes.

  • Dude69

And to think the Post / Murdock is gonna endorse Obama...

  • fakenewyorker

jpeditor, there is so much wrong with what you just wrote it's laughable.

look at the architecture of d.c., it's not the religion of greece they're referencing but athenian democracy.

  • EastRiver

t's just like the red team to put so much fucking focus on appearances. They're just trying to distract from the real issues..

Such as how many houses someone owns.

  • jpeditor

"bush, dressed as a fighter pilot, landing on an aircraft carrier "

Pres. Bush, a former pilot in the NG, was President and Commander in Chief, not a candidate for Mt Olympus, and full scale military operations were complete.

Too bad leftist, masters of nuance couldn't understand, & spent their energy supporting the jihadists who continued fighting our troops instead of supporting them.
