This Week's Media Darling Animal: Bear-Scaring Cockapoo

2008_08_pawlee2.jpgPawlee, the NJ cockapoo puppy who scared a bear and her two cubs from her owners' backyard, is officially a star. WCBS 2 visited the Osiason family to find out what family, and apparently the 8-month-old, 15-pound pup "ran up to them and started barking his head off. I thought he was gonna wake up the whole neighborhood." WCBS even uses a clip from the movie Anchorman, noting that the Will Ferrell movie was the last time a dog had saved humans from bears. Pawlee's dogsitter tells the Post, "He's crazy. He has a lot of energy. He's always barking at things." And let's flashback to 2006 when Jack the cat scared a bear up the tree twice (see the photo).

BAXTER: Leave these people alone. They mean you no harm.
BEAR: We Bears are a proud race. They must pay for their intrusion.
BAXTER: On my journey I met one of your kind. His name was Katow-jo. We became friends.
BEAR: Katow-jo is my cousin. Go in peace.
BAXTER: I will tell tales of your compassion.
BEAR: Fare thee well, Baxter. You shall always be friend of the bears.

Exactly! Watching the Anchorman clip in the WCBS 2 segment was somewhat surreal.

The dog is ugly enough to scare a bear.

My little terrier scared away a crook who tried to break into my brother in law's car. Moral of the story: Some people are as dumb as bears.

I think Steven Cobert has found his dog.
