You can't decide that just because you were born in a country that grants you free speech that you have the freedom to exercise it wherever you want. These protesters aren't the villains from Lethal Weapon 2; that is, they didn't have diplomatic immunity. And why is "Free Tibet" such a hot button in the west anyway? The Dalai Lama was a slavemaster, and Mao getting rid of his brutal caste system there was one of the best things that ever happened to the overwhelming majority of Tibetans; that is, the extremely dirt poor who weren't of the priest class. Why do so many people over here want to Free Tibet, just to enslave the Tibetans?

call it artsy, a fad, sposnored by their parents trust funds, etc., but these people were just exercising some very basic free speech and were thrown in jail and interrogated. they may be dbags, but it's kind of scary that you all are responding as if they deserved it or governments should be able to do this. i'm not one of those "we live in a police state" people, but we are honestly not that far from this type of thingRight or wrong, free speech in China is NOT the same as it is in the US. They knew that was the case going in.

Yes, this was exactly how the fall of USSR started, by the detaining of American artists who went to Moscow to protest for a Free Latvia or some other breakaway republic. One of the stuff white people like, protesting the fad cause of the month. I guarantee no one will talk about Darfur nor Tibet a year from now. Maybe it's some unconcious guilt they feel since it's been white people who caused the most misery in the world for the past 1000 years?
