Term Limits a Touchy Issue

2008_08_cityhall2.jpgMayor Bloomberg is definitely interested in seeing if the CIty City Council can reverse term limits (or at least change them from two terms to three terms) but there may be many legal challenges ahead. The Sun reports NYPIRG would likely "join a fight against such a vote court," with NYPIRG senior attorney Gene Russianoff pointing out that voters approved term limits in both 1993 and 1996. (The same sentiment was echoed by former public advocate and mayoral candidate Mark Green.) But the Daily News' Adam Lisberg explained why City Council Speaker Christine Quinn might be inclined to make a run at changing term limits; one reason might be "she would get a graceful exit from a mayor's race that looks increasing worrisome for her."

Instead of seeking an extra term - why is he not running for Governor or a Congressional seat?

Does this imply that if he does not get his third term, he will leave politics?

Of course, there is a possibility that if Obama or McCain wins, they might make him a cabinet member.

He is the type that would be acceptable to both Democrats and Republicans

Bloomberg's arrogance is beyond acceptable. He has gone from strong promoter of term limits and only the people can change the law they enacted to encouraging a City Council emasculation of the Law.

His record is here:

Leaders trying to extend their own terms of office while still in office?. Just further proof that our beloved city -nay, entire COUNTRY-is actually becoming a Third World Shithole.

WWPD?
(What Would Peron Do?)

Goodbye Dumberg get your ass out of here you bag of crap.

if bloomberg were a man i would compare his deranged narcissism to that of hillary clinton - they should both just go away.

Time to clean house. The whole fucking house.

Let us remember that blessed term limits got rid of Giuliani (who also wanted to extend his term, as you may recall). Had it not been for term limits the suckers would have reelected Rudy over and over, an unending nightmare. They must be rewarded by allowing them to eat Bloomberg as well.

Russianoff (also in charge of the Straphangers) is an idiot; somehow he fails to realize that Bloomberg is better for transit than any of the mayoral candidates.

7, the only reason a 3rd term extension was discussed was because of the myriad of unknown circumstances surrounding the sept. 11th attacks, and the transition that would ensue. giuliani never wanted a 3rd term, and did not explore it until that time, because he had already decided to run for senate before his prostate cancer.

term limits are still stupid, unfortunately so are the voters that should be invoking the natural limitations of the electoral process.

Bloomberg is a noxious prig and should just go away. Political office was not meant to be a career, if we go by the so-called founding fathers. It was meant to be a time of public service that accomplished individuals contributed out of a sense of civic duty. The electorate has spoken on term limits twice. To try to legislate that out of existence is bullshit.
