Giuliani: "Strong" VP Choice "Would Have Been Hillary Clinton"

Rudy Giuliani kicked up his anti-Obama rhetoric by slamming Barack Obama's VP pick. He said, "The strong choice would have been Hillary Clinton, the obvious choice would have been Hillary Clinton...It's kind of a no-brainer that that's your ticket." Of course he'd say that: The RNC keynote speaker is continuing along John McCain's campaign strategy of touting Clinton, and why not, since, per a CNN poll, 27% of Clinton supporters are now for McCain. Clinton is going to release her delegates to Obama, but there are, naturally, rumors of tensions between the Obama and Clinton camps.

Giuliani, please stfu & stfd plz thx.

Of course this is what you want. Nothing would unify the Republican Party more than Hillary Clinton being on the ticket. Not to mention tapping her as VP would overshadow Obama's candidacy. Its a no brainer.

For the first time, possibly ever, Giuliani is actually right about something.

Clinton on the ticket would have done far more FOR the campaign than it would have done to hurt it and it would have appeased angry PUMA voters who will now cast their votes in droves for McCain, effectively handing the Republicans another 4 years in control.

Yes, I love how the Repubs are now Hillary supporters. Laughable.

Does Mr 911 realize at this point that he has zero credibility? Which begs the question - why is he the keynote speaker at the RNC??

I've said it before, Hillary didn't offer anything to Obama except acquiring up a couple of angry people.

But Giuliani is just trying to start trouble.

Aw, poor guy. He's still pissy that Biden had the best zinger about him during the primaries. Noun, verb and 9/11. Nuff said.

It is really interesting to see those of Hillary's supporters (not all of them, but the idiots) cut off their noses to spite their faces by supporting McCain. I remember seeing some feminist group who supported McCain, and being called out on it. They kept on repeating a mantra, but had NO reasonable rationale behind their support, just spite that Hillary had lost. Ridiculous.l

This is not even news. Who cares who one political party would choose for it's opponent? Consider the opposite: "Democrats assail McCain's VP choice, say he should have chosen Thompson".

The GOP should STFU.

Any Hillary Clinton supporter who is now going to vote for McCain is a fool and a jackass.

You gotta hand it to Giuliani, he sure knows how to win a presidential primary and then offer advice on how other people can do the same.
How is it that the losers in these primaries get as much ink as any single issue in the campaign? Rudy & Hillary are not the nominees for a reason.

Much easier lob f-bombs at Giuliani than analyze why the national polls are a statistical dead heat.

This being the latest chapter in the forthcoming book, Why No One Give a Shit About Rudy

One woman on NPR who had supported Hillary but now supports McCain, asked the guest if "there will be riots in DC and across the country" should Obama lose. Unbelievable.

"I've said it before, Hillary didn't offer anything to Obama except acquiring up a couple of angry people."

I agree with EastRiver. Obama would gain little by taking Hillary as VP.

I like Clinton's policies (as I should -- they are practically identical to Obama's and I'm an Obama supporter) and she has the experience needed to be vice president, or president for that matter, but she and Obama don't mix. It would be a disaster for her to be Obama's VP. With Hillary as VP there would be 3 presidents: Barack, Hillary and Bill. I highly doubt that would work out well.

Oops. I meant to say that I agree with driftwood.

Cue the elephant in the room, but Obama's low poll numbers have more to do with his race than the Hillary issue. If he were white, he would have a clear lead over McCain. There is an undercurrent of latent racism that we are completely ignoring in this election.

I don't think Obama is being held back by his race in any quantifiable manner. I will say that he isn't being helped by people like Howard Dean calling the Republican's the white man's party. Does he really think people appreciate being called racists?

"Much easier lob f-bombs at Giuliani than analyze why the national polls are a statistical dead heat."

Why waste time on irrelevant items? National polls don't mean anything. Do you want to look at the state-level polls? Those are the ones that show Obama up 262-252 (22 EVs "tied"), with 76 of the GOP EVs coming from "barely GOP" states (only 9 EVs on the Dem side are considered as such).

Time to stock up on popcorn. Things are getting ugly from now til January.

Sure the state numbers are more important than the national number but to call the numbers you cited anything more than a statistical dead heat is reaching. I stand by my assessment that there are things the Obama camp could be doing to be much further ahead. Don't get defensive.

I thought it was odd that most of the coverage of this "news story" neglected to reference Biden's legendary diss of Rudy in that debate.

Anyone who knows anything about Rudy knows that this is just one of his famous grudges...

Only one poll matters. November 4th. Obama in a landslide

#22, We've heard that before. Never underestimate the power of the Dems to underestimate the power of the red states.

Obama will not win. The latent racism in this country will get the best of the enfranchised white folk and McCain will be the next president.

And that's ok, because honestly, I don't want the first person of color to be president to have to inherit the world of absolute shit that Yokel is going to leave behind.

I have a bad feeling about this November, as much as I want Obama to win I think this is his Election to lose (his nom of Biden as VP solidify my concern). Which is incredibly sad and distressing that this country would rather have the country go to hell and war monger then let a Black man in the White House. Indeed.

I'm not sure Count Dracula should be giving anybody campaign advice.

I'm sure a lot of republicans are upset that Clinton is not on the ticket b/c it would have motivated conservative voters that are currently uninterested in McCain and likely to stay home. Also, the Clintons (in fairness, more Bill than Hill) bring have a ton of baggage that would damage the Democratic party.

It really is about time that not only Hillary supporters, but Hillary herself realize that she LOST! Accept it, move on and support your party's chosen candidate...please check you enormous ego (and Bill's even bigger mouth) at the door of the democratic convention, step up and for once, do the right thing...and not just the right thing for you.

"I stand by my assessment that there are things the Obama camp could be doing to be much further ahead."

EastRiver,

What do you think the Obama campaign could be doing to be further ahead?

Hillary was robbed and she knows it. Post Wright Obama won a whopping two primaries. Throw out those horseshit gamed caucuses and she beat him.

The lefest media wants you to believe racism will work against Obama but no Democrat since LBJ has carried the white male vote. Most guys aren't into the whole serf for Big Brother thing. Then again if I had my hand out thinking other folks sdomehow owed me ANYTHING then perhaps I too would be a Dem. Most of you liberals would prefer Chavez if given the chance.

If the Democrats treated blacks the way they treat women.... Pelosi will soon be out as well.

Where would Obama be without recieving 90% of the black vote? I doubt many white DEMOCRATS voted against Obama just because of race. After all if someone is biased they're sure as hell not going to be a member of the Democratic party.

You get the feeling that democrats are grasping at explanations why Obama is doing so badly in the polls. The truth is that for a 'change agent', Obama has very few if any new ideas and some of his attempts at energy policy are just laughable: Republican oilman T. Boone Pickens ran rings around him with his nationally televised ads while Obama was explaining his "tire inflation" comment. He's no visionary and, unlike Hillary, he doesn't even have a fully-developed conventional approach to dealing with all these messes. On the stage he is inspirational, even messianic, but we've seen these Bumper Sticker Messiahs come and we've seen them go.

As for Rudy, at what time does he have anything to offer to anyone? He just needs to sign another consulting contract and go pad his empty nest.

NannyState,

Obama is actually not "doing so badly in the polls." He's ahead of McCain and has been for a while.

As for Obama's policies, he IS for change. For example, he wants the government to be accountable to tax payers when the government spends their money (this is a change, since under Bush & Company we've had no bid contracts in Iraq).

Healthcare is another issue that you might want to look into. I'm pretty sure that he's looking to change the worst healtcare system in the developed world.

He has infact been very clear on his policies. He is a policy wonk! You might want to try reading some of his policies instead of repeating talking points that you heard on Fox News.

Peace.
Obama/Biden '08

@VanessaNYC: it's easy to call something "change" when what you advocate is not the current policy of the sitting administration. By that standard, John McCain will be ushering in "change". But what I'm not seeing from Barack Obama is visionary leadership. His stands on so many issues either echo past positions by leading democrats, or are just scripted filler. Healthcare? Hillary got there first in 1993. Energy? Iceland declared its intention to be carbon-free in 50 years. What's holding Obama back? Even the Bush-backed leader in Iraq has a more aggressive plan to exit the U.S. troops than Obama or Clinton. The point is that we know he is talented and very bright. the question is: can he deliver a substantive program for renewal, or will he just anotate the Clinton agenda or the Democratic party platform?

C'mon Pabst,

You're acting like Hillary was the under dog here. The Clintons are a Democratic dynasty, with crazy connections, and everyone thought great fund raising abilities, and everyone thought she had it clinched.

It was her race to lose.
