I'm torn on this issue. I think that Bloomberg has been a great mayor. However, to flip on this issue when he clearly in the past stated his support for term limits would be bad. I don't see any qualified candidates for 2009, but that doesn't mean that Mike should be mayor again. I say put it on the ballot.

#15: agreed. Gotta keep term limits to prevent career city council deadweights. I'm a Bloomberg fan but the cost of overturning term limits definitely outweighs any benefits of a third term.

bloomie has 80% approval ratings. it's funny how people on this board hate the average joe. They think that 1) "other" people are too dumb to have a legitimate opinion of bloomie and 2) that "other" people should have their right to vote subordinated to term limits. for bloomie haters, name the mayor from history that would have deserved your vote.

The other day Richard D Parsons, the chairman of Time Warner, was exclaiming his desire to have Bloomberg in for a third term. The term limit was for put in place for a reason. Get over it Bloomberg.

Knee-jerk reactions from a bunch of hipsters to be against "the man". The losers who are in the mix for 2009 will run this City into the ground. I can't believe smbdy mentioned Weiner, who is not smart enough to run the biggest City in the country. Not even close. The guy is awful and would be a terrible mayor.

i'm sure the city council will back this too as they've been trying to ram the end of term limits down the peoples throats for years and losing every time. they would love nothing more than to keep their cushy part time 6 figure jobs in return for absolutely no valuable contributions to the city.

Yes, the superrich are really getting behind Bloomie. Two terms is enough. Term limits prevent corruption - completely necessary in New York (for council members, too). Unless Paterson surprises us (and giving big pay raises to campaign contributors does not), MB definitely has the early lead and financial edge for guv.

#1 and #4 agreed. The people have spoken twice against term limits. Why am I not surprised the billionaires want him for another term? Perfect example of what's going on in the city nowadays. Ignore the regular folk and listen to the billionaire folk.

I agree with #2. Paterson is not stupid - he knows Mike would be enticed to move upstate if he can't continue as mayor. I think Bloomberg would be an ideal governor given his financial intelligence (Lord knows that NY is desperate for someone to get our finances in good order). That said, even the best and brightest will have a hard time fixing our mess until Sheldon Silver gets knocked out of office.
