Livery Cab Driver Shot in the Face

2008_08_livcab2.jpgEarly this morning in East Elmhurst, Queens, a livery cab driver was shot in the face. WCBS 2 reports "someone posing as a customer hopped into a livery cab and shot the driver in the cheek." The victim, Jose Santacruz, works part-time for the Tulcingo car company (his other part-time job is as a cook in Manhattan) and managed to make calls over the radio for help. A dispatcher told the Daily News he sent drivers to check out the situation, and by the time emergency services got there, they "found Santacruz lying on the ground and bleeding from the face." Santacruz is in stable condition; police hope surveillance footage from the cab will help them with the investigation.

    Description of perp?

And the NYPD choppers waking me up at 1:30am are now explained.

If this guy reported he got shot over the radio, every driver with this car service in listening distance probably responded. Most of these car services are a pretty tight knit bunch. I remember once watching some douchebag threaten a driver with a bat, and he radioed for help. 4 minutes later there were like 15 black cars on the scene (and a number of confused passengers lol), and suddenly it was becoming clear to the bat wielding idiot that he didn't think his cunning plan all the way through.

I hope this driver makes a full recovery, and NYPD gets it right and catches the perp.

The dispatcher probably did call the emergency crews first. It was a matter of response time. His men are better drivers.

Another brave robber. I hope he didn't get any blood on his Dream Team jersey with convenient gang colors.
