Columbia University Ranks 8th on U.S.News List

US News & World Report has released its annual list which ranks the best colleges and universities. All the usual suspects make the top 10, with Columbia University sharing its 8th place title with both Duke and the University of Chicago. NYMag weighs in, saying Columbia is the Duke of the North (burn?), just as about "ten southern schools refer to themselves as The Harvard of the South." The Bwog notes that "Chicago and Columbia were tied for the #9 spot last year, while Duke ranked 8th." Starting this Fall, Columbia gets a little more James Franco, which will clearly only up its ranking for next year. Also: NYU is #33 and Yeshiva University is #50 on the list of universities.

Please--when Duke tries to claim the rest of upper Manhattan under eminent domain, then I'll believe it.

People still follow these rankings? They have been so thoroughly manipulated by certain schools that they have no meaning.

Personally I know Duke is stealing personnel from Columbia. It's an excellent uni. IMHOP, MIT should be the default #1 every year.

#8? too bad. It's still #1 In my book for getting violently raped and tortured in Harlem.

I had no idea Yeshiva was ranked that high. Mazel tov!

if they didn't strip search matriculated students for tobacco they'd move up a notch or 2?

I still enjoy strip tease shows with the Duke Lacrosse team. Yeah once in a while you get an unruly stripper with mental health issues who want to sue when sex gets a little rough. But these chicks were fairly compensated. Besides after the first case or two the administrative staff got behind us and it's all good now. And face it you can't rape a stripper at Columbia when finals are over. Oh yeah, and feel free to rape a student at Columbia at anytime.

#2 is right on point. These rankings are very political. I understand that there is no perfect way to rank these schools, but way too much stock in placed into this publication. It's too influential. The law school edition is even egregious.

There are "10 Harvards of the South"? I didn't realize that Harvard was packing 90,000 seat football stadiums with fans who make pig-calling noises.

Hmm, I had no idea NYU ranked that high...

How does City College rank?
