Term limits has given minorites their greatest opportunity to enter the political system and poll after poll shows New Yorkers support keeping the current. Something's up with this guy. Why else would he be trying to draw out the Council on a matter he was content to let the voters have their say on? He won't come out and just say he wants another term so he basically asks the Council to "ask" him via a change in the statute? What is he? The Pope? It's unseemly for him to russle his ermine cape so his footmen are sent out to fetch his new mitre?

all valid points, but the more important solution is to have educated voters enforcing the only term limits necessary - elections. the troubling thing about bloomberg is that not only is he a media whore, he's the pimp too! he has too much control over too many ends of the equation, and people start believing everything they hear about him. coming into the job he had a terrible plate set in front of him, and he admirably took on the task and did some very good things. he has though made some terrible calls, and chose to remain silent on others. a change is due, but alas, we're offered up douche vs. turd once again.

Jen, I agree with the essence of what you are saying. However, I truly believe it is just a way of manipulating the populice to come out say, "no you should for gov. that is where you belong" and then he can look sheepishly in the camera and say he is just doing what the people want without making it look like it was his idea. I don't trust that short jerk as far as I can throw him.

somedays I like Bloomberg - I like that he is DOING things to change the city - although I dont like all of the things he does - that said the voters voted for term limits doesnt seem like a democracy where the politicians can over turn then when they want

As I've said here before, enjoying a period of relative prosperity during one mayor's term is not a valid reason for repealing term limits.That's true. I'm not convinced that the fact that all the options that appear to be on the table for the next Mayoral election suck hardcore is a valid reason either, but I might go for it nonetheless if it'll keep that idiot Weiner out of Gracie Mansion.

In theory, it would be better to have a person with a high level of financial knowledge managing the city through the tough times in order to keep our heads above the water. I think if this is actually true, it should go up for vote in November instead of having the Council all agree to save their own asses from term limits.

I think most rumors about Mayor Bloomberg are true--I suspect it's a lot of strategic leaking to get people used to these ideas and then when he gives his about-face, it's like, "Finally you admit it!" less than "You said the opposite 8 months ago."
