Why aren't they considering the wind turbines designed by Bil Becker? They are implementing these in Chicago and they resolve both architectural and environmental concerns, including birds and ice accumulation. Perhaps the offices serving Pataki and Bloomberg should be more exposed to emerging technologies in this field prior to making recommendations. As you can read for yourself, the article in the attached link is from 2005...you would hope that politicians would be exposed to this type of information by now...but perhaps that is too optimistic.

The head of solar energy design company altPower, Antony Pereira, said, “New York is really a solar city,” noting it's less expensive to install solar panels and they pay for themselves much faster.

Gee, a solar company CEO saying solar is the only choice. What a surprise. Why not both wind and solar? Or does he think photovoltaics alone can provide all the electricity NYC needs?

Somebody needs to tell the Donald that the only "great" thing his buildings are known for is the unparalleled ego of their namesake.

"Great architecture"? No. But if you fed Donald Trump into a turbine, what comes out the other end might qualify as great art.

what else do you expect him to say, as far as those birds are concerned - who gives a shit, really. if burning pigeons alive would save energy, i'll bring the matches.

I'm simply stunned by Trump's statement. I'm not sure how he truly believes that anyone thinks that about his buildings.

Gov. George E. Pataki expressed concern about the danger the blades would pose to migrating birds

That used to be a concern, many years ago. Today's wind turbines actually turn very slowly, an engineering change that was made in part for that reason.
