Saturday Night Live has a new cast member--Season 34's new addition is longtime UCB Theater performer Bobby Moynihan. (Many had expected the pick to be a female, due to Amy Poehler's departure.) The Huffington Post reports that Moynihan worked on "The Line," which has SNL cast members involved (watch episodes here), and with others from the SNL troupe at UCB. Also noted is that "one of Moynihan's best-known talents within the UCB community is his repertoire of black impressions- which, if they make it on air, may revive some old complaints about SNL." (Last season the show ended up using Fred Armisen, who is of Caucasian and Asian descent, to play Barack Obama.)

Bring Jeff Hiller from UCB to SNL! SNL needs Jeff Hiller!

he looks like the guy who does that sports radio commercial with m. kay at the ATM.
SNL sucks, this guys career is now on life support.
Fred Armisen's Obama is actually pretty good.
Even if he is a fat, bearded white guy, he'll do a better job than Fred Armisen.
Can he also do annoying hillbilly impressions? Because with Amy Poehler gone, the show will have about 86 minutes to fill every week.
Bobby is such a great performer and an awesome teacher! Congrats to him! And ditto on Jeff Hiller he is brilliant!
Bring Dave Hill or Brett Gellman of UCB, they are hilarious. Actually don't, but give them their own shows, preferably on cable.
Why is it that all "big boned" comics have to have that same publicity shot? The one that says, "Just under the surface, I'm wacky". Oh, I know, it's the John Belushi Special at the portrait studio.
This is the strongest SNL cast in ages, you people obviously had the show written off before watching last season. Armisen, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, and Will Forte all really came into their own last season (except for Armisen, who has been incredible thoughout his time on it.) Poehler started off great, but throughout her time there she got more and more obnoxious in sketches. By the end, she was intolerable.
I hope this new dude is more Chris Farley than Horatio Sanz.
By "ages" i mean "about 10 years"
JMH, Fred Armisen's Obama is complete crap. I have no doubt that Obama is a hard individual to impersonate, but there's nothing about his routine that connects with his personality in an identifiable way.
He basically just stands there, in blackface, and acts dumb. Not especially impressive.
The so called comedians at UCB aren't funny at all. Joining the cast of SNL won't help the show.
Bobby is a truly hilarious individual---Saturday Night Live is fortunate have him!
yeah this guy is wicked funny!
I don't know anything about Moynihan, but SNL desperately needs someone to play Obama for the next 4-8 years. Fred Armisen might look the part (with the help of make-up), but he only grunts and makes odd facial expressions (i.e. a very cartoonish impression of Barack).
I agree that this might be the best SNL cast in several years, although losing Amy Phoeler is a big blow. Hopefully, Kristen Wiig will continue to shine in her role as the alpha female (the chick in every sketch).
Any word on other additions or arrivals? I think it's time for Darrel Hammond and Keenan Thompson to part ways. Thoughts?
Setting aside the question of whether it's strictly accurate to describe Armisen's Venezuelan/German heritage as "Caucasian" in the way you mean it, "Caucasian" is not really a favored word to to describe white people of European descent anymore. It's getting close to being as tacky as the words "Oriental" and "Eskimo" and I think will soon be considered as such.
For starters...

re: #15
as far as departures, i really wouldn't mind seeing and samberg go. he digital shorts served a purpose for about 3 months, then became horrible, and whenever he pops up in sketches its just uncomfortable. kenan thompson is a good comedian, but he's kind of out of place on SNL...wouldn't mind seeing him go. the new girl, casey wilson, shows promise. darrell hammond is all but fired, i've heard he's getting paid on a by-sketch deal that is more of a courtesy than anything.
other than that the cast is really great. i have to add jason sudekis to my original list, as he's great in pretty much everything he's in.
the three big weaknesses of last season for me were samberg, poehler and kenan.
and i agree with #8..what is it about fat comics and the "oops, i just farted!!" headshot?
To be fair, Bobby Moynihan only plays black characters who are tragically raped.
