State Budget Cuts Fall Very Short of Governor's Hopes

Governor David Paterson and the Legislature met yesterday for an emergency session to deal with the state budget. Paterson had requested a billion in cuts, but it appears the slashing will result in $411-500 million in cuts. Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos tried to find the silver lining, "What we're going to do today will translate into a billion dollars or more off of next year's deficit, so I think that's a significant start." Of course, the problem is that if Wall Street and the economy continue to falter, the deficit could grow to $26.2 billion in three years. While some education programs were spared, CUNY will be hit with $51 million less in funding.

These idiots in Albany can't come up with a billion dollars in waste in a budget of over 130 billion? They're not even being asked to cut one full freakin' percent. You and I both know there are billions in just shear waste let alone useless programs, jobs, etc. It's been said before, but everyone who works in Albany and pretty much the city government as well are completely useless.

Great cut education. Just what we need. Keep the people stupid so they will continue to vote against their own interests and keep these scumbags in office.

Time to start drilling for oil in Olean again.
