08vanicecream.jpgFOOD: We love the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream truck! If you haven't been able to find it out on the streets yet, head over to the Brooklyn Kitchen where "Ben will go over the basics of making custard, and will talk about overrun, eggs, butterfat and stabilizers. He'll cover the chemistry involved in ice cream making, and go over different styles of ice cream." Word is that the truck has been concocting some new flavors, including: port and fig and goat cheese blackberry!

EVENT: Fashionistas and Carrie-worshipers will be congregating tonight, and you could be one of them. The evening will be celebrating New York fashion and Sex and the City, and "New Yorkers are invited to come dressed up as their favorite character from the film. Top designers will donate fashion pieces as prizes which will be given away throughout the night to diners with the best costumes and style." Each guest gets a comped cocktail, and the "regular menu and specials will be served and a portion of the evening’s proceeds will benefit Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter, a non-profit organization that provides homeless with support and shelter."

THEATER: In Halley Bondy’s multimedia play The Redheaded Man, a gifted young architect named Brian is plagued by constant visions of internal biological functions (depicted through video projected onstage) that inspire his designs, yet render him “a walking social disaster. The fine line between madness and genius becomes increasingly blurred as Brian struggles to navigate the secrets of his mind.” Reviewing the show, Jack Hanley says this “risky yet very successful mix of pharmaceutical farce and earnest drama…is one of the finer productions of the FringeNYC Festival this year." – John Del Signore

10 p.m. // The Barrow Street Theatre [27 Barrow Street] // $15

I got a strawberry ice cream yesterday. It was good. It'll be parked across the Apple Store in SoHo (Prince and Greene) for the next few weeks.

I've seen the Van Leeuwen truck outside of Fairway at West 75th and Broadway on a fairly regular basis... might be easier than trekking to Brooklyn!
