#2 gets it. Replacing short haul air service with high speed rail has got to be the ultimate objective. But that's years, if not decades (if we keep electing republicans) away. In the meantime, #1 got it right, these stupid auctions are a way for the Bush FAA to avoid the hard work of revamping flight control systems and adding infrastructure to congested airports.

Its funny that Paterson thought to bother asking Corzine how he felt, considering Paterson seems to be under the impression that the Port Authority is a New York agency rather than the fact that its actually a bi-state agency.

Flights to smaller cities SHOULD be eliminated. Our rail network, especially in this part of the country, should be improved and airlines should focus on longer, more profitable, more fuel-efficient routes.

The DOT & FAA should focus on upgrading the air traffic control system as our current system is the #1 reason we have so many delays ahead of weather and Mechanical problems. Auctioning off takeoffs and landings won't do jack in that respect.
