Even though a well paid public offical owning a rent stabilized apartment is abhorrent as well as it is ridiculous, I'd do exact same thing, even with the same salary.

Christine Quim has a house in NJ, fully carpeted, I imagine..

"NY Sun had an editorial questioning why City Council Speaker Christine Quinn remains in a $1,600/month rent-stabilized apartment, when she makes $141,000/year from the City Council, owns half a $500,000 house in NJ, and her partner is a corporate lawyer enough for their combined income to probably be at least $300,000"

Also, "the City Council Speaker once stood with the angry masses against the West Side stadium and the Stuy Town sale. Now, she cuts back-room deals and collects hefty campaign checks from developers"

So basically they want to give themselves more power to raise rents.

Uh... no.

Anyway, the statement from the RSA spokesman would leave me, if I were a landlord, hoping that the suit itself does a better job of making an argument than he does when speaking to the press: "For the first time, they are making a violation something that is not objective but something that is subjective."

The problem with that is that a clear definition of harassment is well-established both in penal codes and case law in the US. The argument that it's "subjective" is baseless.
