Sweet and Vicious Shuttered

php1qYJmpAM.jpgThe Gawker crowd was dismayed last night to find that Nolita bar Sweet and Vicious has abruptly closed. Former Gawker editor Jessica Coen relays a rumor on Grub Street that the place was seized by the landlord. And the Sweet and Vicious answering machine has this to say: "Thank you for calling Sweet and Vicious. After enjoying ten years at our 5 Spring Street location, and due to circumstances beyond our control, we are taking a brief hiatus... Please check back as we will be reopening shortly." But despite the appealing back courtyard, one of the bouncers was an unconscionable prick, so good riddance.

"one of the bouncers was an unconscionable prick"

Yep. I'd been going to Sweet and Vicious on and off for five years. A couple of months back I was refused entry by a bouncer who said "I don't think this is your kind of place." Good riddance.

Anything that makes Gawker or its people hurt is fine by me.

ha ha!

fetch me my tear vase that i may weep for them.

the garden is nice, but otherwise i'm not a huge fan of this dungeon. but now where will we go when the jen bekman openings get full up?

Coming soon to this location: "Club Gawker". ( absolutely no admittance to anyone )

jdl and jc should quit posting here and go write for gawker.

But failed writer smug hipster pop culture sponges that blog about celebrities in hopes of blogging their way to writing a book need a place to drink alcohol. What are they gonna do now?

...probably go to Beauty Bar.

I've never been there, but if Gawker staff frequented it then I assume it sucked.

I stopped going to most of those places because of stuff like unconscionable prick bouncers. It's odd, but I like giving my money to people who, you know, appreciate it -- not people who act like charging me $20 for a drink is somehow them doing me a favor. Give me a sports bar any day, and let the unconscionable prick bouncers hang out with the unconscionable B&T's.

A Gawker hang out? Starts making sense why the place sucked so much. Never understood why people would want to drink there... place blows (blew???)

REST IN PIECES!

Aren't most bars, clubs, or restaurants have some rude or inattentive staff, bad food or service, yet people still come back to these places anyway? Sweet and Vicious will be missed, not because of the bouncer or the staff but its clienteles. Where else can you find Sheila McClear, Jessica Roy, Jessica Coen all in the same place at the same time?
