Pencil This In

0808clash.jpgMOVIE: Catch the 1980 drama-rockumentary, Rude Boy, documenting life on the road with the Clash. Azazel Jacobs had this to say: “Can’t say it had any direct influence, other than a film that I have watched countless times, but only once on screen—a midnight show at 8th St Playhouse which my best friend and I could only get in by bringing his mom. The place was filled with bikers, and one next to me yelled out during a scene, 'Say it like it is Joe!' Word is the band didn’t like the film when it came out, and the lead (Ray Gange) punched out one of the directors after seeing it—but I think that’s only because it showed too much truth."

6 and 9 p.m. // BAM [30 Lafayette St, Brooklyn] // $11

MUSIC: You've got two free outdoor concerts to choose from tonight. First up is NYC's very own Blonde Redhead, possibly one of the sexiest bands in indie rock. "Frontwoman Kuzo Makino's voice both stands out and blends melodically with the guitar and drums of Amedeo and Simone Pace giving rise to a distinctive and awesome sound." Eric Copeland (from Black Dice) opens.

6 p.m. // Pier 54 [14th St and Hudson River] // Free

Next up Big Daddy Kane, who has collaborated with Public Enemy, Snoop Dogg and others, is at Marcus Garvey Park. Kane was a part of the legendary Queens-based hip-hop collective Juice Crew, and is "known for his lightening fast rhyming skills."

7 p.m. // Marcus Garvey Park [Madison Ave and E 120th St] // Free

THEATER: Morris Panych’s 7 Stories is set on a high window ledge, where one man's suicide is repeatedly interrupted by "the manically eccentric residents inside. The two lovers who constantly threaten to murder one another, the actor on his wedding day who plans to stay in character for the rest of his life, and the lady who keeps her own faith by answering the prayers of residents on the sixth floor. After hearing these 'seven stories' it looks like all the insanity is inside, and that the suicidal man is the least likely to jump." The Times calls a current revival "a sweet and funny little play" with a "lovely, subtle conclusion doesn’t seem out of place." – John Del Signore

7 p.m. // Gene Frankel Theatre [24 Bond Street] // $15
