- From the Gothamist Newsmap: A hazmat situation on Amsterdam & W 59th St, a pedestrian struck at Flushing Ave & Washington Ave in Brooklyn, and a child struck at 188 St & Webster Ave in the Bronx.
- Two NJ children are stuck in the republic of Georgia--they had been visiting their grandparents' farm, but then the Russians invaded.
- We still don't get the insanity over The Jonas Brothers.
- Uh oh--some unpaid volunteer is in trouble! Apparently Vogue editor Anna Wintour's was misspelled "Ann" on a fundraiser invitation (she's a special guest).
- Barnes & Noble reportedly does not want to buy Borders.
- Well, this will help the bottom line: The FAA is fining American Airlines $7.1 million for flying planes with safety problems and for drug testing violations.
- Speaking of airlines, Queens Crap dissects a feature about Queens in Midwest Airlines' in-flight magazine.
- The Daily News' David Hinckley thinks it's about time there's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame presence in NYC.

I love them both, admittedly, but I actually prefer Borders over Barnes & Noble. Their free Borders Rewards Card has helped me score some serious discounts on some otherwise very expensive books (I'm talking 40% off) -- whereas B&N charges an annual fee for their discount plan, and the savings were always only 10%.
Actually, now that I think about it (and look at all the books on my shelf that I bought at 30% and 40% off from Borders) maybe I'm responsible for their bankruptcy. :-O
Nice pic, Jen!
yes, lovely photo jen!
excellent photo of nowhere.
Thanks! I waiting before seeing a movie at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas and I looked up and it was just a strange but pretty view.
@r_friend, I also like Borders, but Barnes & Noble has bigger (and more) stores, so they have a certain kind of edge. It's a shame--I remember being a little kid and going to B. Dalton and Brentano's.

Jen--
Wow, B.Dalton... you just took me back about 20 years! I spent almost as much time there as a kid as I did in the video arcade next door to it. Almost.
You never know what you're gonna get from store to store with Borders/Barnes & Noble; I think it also clearly depends on who handles the inventory. One store may have a terrific selection of top-tier graphic design books that I'd be willing to go into debt myself for, while another may have a total of three.
Borders, to their credit, also earned some points when they added Seattle's Best coffee. That cold-brewed marble mocha thing of theirs is worth the price of admission.
The biggest flaw of Borders is that their stores don't have a Biographies section.
