The Observer has a feature on the dwindling fortunes of NJ coverage and newspapers: The New York Times "emptied out its two New Jersey bureaus in Trenton and Newark," Record's headquarters are being shut down and the Star-Ledger (the 15th biggest paper in the country, in 2007) may be sold if a large number of employees don't take buyouts. The NY Times' David Carr wrote a column about the Star-Ledger's importance, "It’s the kind of newspaper that can get the laziest reader out of bed." This is also a good time to remember that today is four-years since James McGreevey announced he was a gay American and was stepping down--the Star-Ledger won a Pulitzer for their coverage.

Funny that the Observer would devalue the state of New Jersey's media coverage when the Observer's owner is looking to gobble up the pitiful remains of the Ledger.
The Ledger is a better paper than most of the crap we have in the city.
The Star-Ledger is a pretty good paper and it is probably the strongest media voice in the state. Then again their website is a joke and a half.
Who's going to remind residents when to recycle their lawn clippings?
