0808huelga.jpgEVENT: PopRally at MoMA presents the Art of Dissent tonight. "For many artists, politics are an essential component of both their art and their interactions with community and commerce. In this panel, artists and musicians discuss how politics and art mix in their work and working processes." Tonight join Justseeds, Paper Tiger and Ted Leo! A cocktail reception follows the discussion.

READING: Max Gross, reporter for The New York Post, has got some advice for Jewish guys on the lookout for ladies. He's put it all down in his book From Schlub to Stud: How to Embrace Your Inner Mensch and Conquer the Big City. Get a preview of what you're in for at...the Post.

MUSIC: Peasant returns to NYC tonight "to play one of his more intimate and creative shows" at Think Coffee. Allegedly the former coffee house employee is performing "in celebration of so many Starbucks locations closing!" He embarks on a national coffee tour (no kidding) this September, so consider this a sneak preview. Tomorrow he plays a more traditional show at Mercury Lounge, with Bodies of Water.

PARTY: Spiegelworld, newly reopened in time for summer's last throes, is the scene for the BUST Magazine 15th birthday party tonight. Join Amy Sedaris, Murray Hill, Leslie Hall, and, um, Free Blood down at the South Street Seaport to celebrate the magazine's journey from photocopied 'zine to a "loud-and-proud" glossy. Editor-In-Chief Debbie Stoller and Creative Director Laurie Henzel, who started BUST as an alternative to the "beautiful-but-false women's titles cluttering newsstands" will be on hand, with music by Morningwood, stilt walking by Lady Circus, performances by The Pontani Sisters, and cupcakes by BabyCakes Bakery. And the first 500 guests to arrive are promised a BUST goodie bag packed with goodies and treats to take home. -- John Del Signore
