A Big Apple Welcome for Brett Favre

Mayor Bloomberg welcomed new Jets quarterback Brett Favre to New York City at a City Hall press conference yesterday. However, Bloomberg did not give Favre a key to the city--just a keychain, "You win a Super Bowl, and I will make sure you get a key to hang on your Transit Authority key ring." He did give Favre a Broadway sign--"Broadway Brett has a nice ring to it"--plus a $4 Metrocard, some Junior's Cheesecakes and his autobiography, Bloomberg on Bloomberg.

Favre said, "The attention that I've gotten since I've been here has just been overwhelming. I'd like to thank everyone for that. The bottom line, as we all know, is to win games. And that's what I'm here to do." The NY Times flashes back to 1997, when Favre said of almost going to the Jets in 1991, "I don’t know if I would’ve been too good in New York. That’s too big a city for me.”

And former Jets quarterback Chad Pennington was signed to the Miami Dolphins, whose VP of operations Bill Parcells was the one who drafted Pennington to the Jets in 1990..

He'll be the pride of New Jersey

Bloomberg looks like a leprechaun.

@blablanyc:
he IS a leprechaun, only instead of a pot of gold he owns Bloomberg.

Also, Farve looks ancient. I can't believe I have to spend another year listening to everyone in football kiss his elderly ass.

They should have given him a round trip ticket from Secaucus to Penn Station on New Jersey Transit instead of a MetroCard.

Chad Pennington was drafted in 2000 not 1990.
