To the little Madame LeFarges in this commenting section, Your rhetoric makes me queasy. Have you thought that maybe the cops and DA are exaggerating about this kid's statements? And if they are true--which I don't buy for a second--he was definitely in physical shock and experiencing denial. Assuming he is an average human specimen with the concomitant feelings of his species he will be haunted by the two people he has killed forever. And spend a long time in jail. 15 years is an eternity for a teenager. There was no premeditation, no motive, he was, in short, a reckless kid who was very unlucky. And you want him post facto aborted, or thrown off a cliff? Lynch mobs are grotesque. Especially urban "educated" ones.

Ribaldry, the 17 year old has already been arrested for robbery. A few weeks ago, he and two friends beat up some pre-teens in a playground - then forced them to go home and hand over another $200. He was flying down the street while high, purposely blew through a red light, and killed the Kims on their way to work - to pay for their daughter at Yale. He's just a piece of shit who needs to rot away. And if you did all of the above at 17, I'd like to think you wouldn't ask about the car first.

His lawyer claims he made those statements while heavily medicated and blamed the intersection's "overgrown trees." Yeah right! The above statement suggests the groundwork for a Felony DUI or its New York equivalent. Being medicated is certainly no defense to Driving Under the Influence. Also, despite what the lawyer says about the trees, the most likely cause of the accident, based on what I have read, was the speed of the Mercedes, not the trees. In South Carolina the exposure would be 25 years. He does not appear to be charged with a driving while impaired charge though. Why not? I would be curious to know whether the defendant was given any breath alcohol, urine drug screens or blood (alcohol/drug) tests at the hospital. The prosecutor's statement puzzled me as well, as this seemed like much more than a "flouting" of your "traffic regulations." Of course, that still doesn't change the idiocy of Sommelier's statement that he could never be a lawyer, as he must be able to look himself in the mirror without gagging. Maybe, he meant to say that the lawyer's legal theory would probably not hold water, instead of impugning every lawyer alive.

So we have two parents who saw something coming but lavished spoils on this pustule anyway. And we have a 15 yr old who tanked up on drugs on top of his psychosis and took "his" Mercedes for a spin. Anything else we can do for him? Condo? Nice job on Wall Street when he gets out? When a wreck like this happens where one party is so clearly negligent and impaired, there should be a general amnesty for passersby to beat the offender to a pulp and put him on a feeding tube for the rest of his miserable life.

At some point you have to act like a parent and sometimes that means disciplining your screwed up kids. Sometimes it also means being smart enough to have an abortion rather than become a parent. I'm a huge supporter of Roe v. Wade. As a matter of fact, I'm a huge supporter of psychological testing of people before they are allowed to be parents.
