Pencil This In
This weekend as the 88Boadrum event (which is now sold out) brings 88 drummers to the Williamsburg waterfront, and Radiohead enchants a crowd at All Points West...there's still plenty going on around town, including some Double Dirty Dancing.
MOVIE: Put on your hoodie and ride your bike over to Pier 46 tonight, one of the "80s hoodie films" (as Natasha Khan coined the genre) is playing tonight: The Goonies! Sure it's part of the River Flickrs for Kids series, but we're betting there will be plenty of adults as well. Free popcorn provided, but you'll have to bring your own Baby Ruth.
Friday // 8 p.m. // Pier 46 [Charles St and Hudson River] // Free
MUSIC: Head over to the other pool in Brooklyn tonight, Union Pool, for Nat Baldwin and Extra Life. They both have ties to Dirty Projectors, and their live shows are not to be missed. If you do miss it, however, they'll be at The Stone in Manhattan tomorrow.
Friday // 8 p.m. // Union Pool [484 Union Ave, Williamsburg] // TBA
YO-YO: "New York City's often outlandish Japanese action-punk band Peelander-Z" is scheduled to perform at this year's International Yo-Yo Open & New York State Yo-Yo Contest. The yo-yos will most likely take center stage, however, with nearly 100 of the world's top yo-yo champs showing off their tricks.
Saturday // 11 a.m. // South Street Seaport, Pier 17 // Free
EVENT: If you can't go to Hawaii, let AMNH bring it to you! "In recognition of the United Nations’ International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, there will be a special concert performance with Halau I Ka Wekiu from Hawai’i as well as an indigenous Caribbean cultural presentation by members of the Cacibajagua Taino Cultural Society. A panel discussion and short film series will also be featured," with a Fair and Showcase taking place in the Museum’s Grand Gallery.

MOVIE/MUSIC: Rooftop Films presents I'll Come Running this Saturday, "an awkward, comic, sexy one night stand turns substantial, then life-changing, in this dizzying mix of romantic comedy and drama." Get there at 8:30 for a live set by Bell, the movie begins at 9, and enjoy a post-screening open Bar reception courtesy of Brooklyn Oenology Wine!

THEATER: The reviews are just in for that revival of Hair in Central Park, and, believe it or not, it seems to be more than just a tired nostalgia trip! Eric Grode at The Sun says it’s “filled with vitality and emotion,” and Big Ben Brantley at the Times hands down a rave: “Seen 40 years after it first stormed the middle-class citadel of musical comedy, Hair registers as an eloquent requiem not only for the idealism of one generation but also for the evanescence of youth itself. It’s still the ‘tribal love-rock”’celebration it was always advertised as being. But in suggesting the dawning age of Aquarius is already destined for nightfall, this production establishes the show as more than a vivacious period piece. Hair, it seems, has deeper roots than anyone remembered." – John Del Signore
Sunday // 8 p.m. // The Delacorte Theater [Central Park, south of 81st Street] // Free, details here
