A yellow cab driver was shot in the face around 6:15 a.m. while at the intersection of Lafayette and Franklin Avenues in Brooklyn, a few blocks away from Pratt. He was taken to a hospital (either Kings County or Woodhull), and he is reportedly expected to survive. No arrests have been made, but the detectives are on the scene and are searching for evidence near the cab. Update: Now the police say 62-year-old Enois Melbranche was shot by a female passenger. According to NY1, "Melbranche picked up [three] women on Flatbush Avenue and had just dropped them at their destination when they refused to pay. Melbranche reportedly exited the car and a single shot was fired, striking the cabbie in the eye." Police are reviewing photos.

hey Channel 7. that's Bed-Stuy, not Fort Greene. not even close to Fort Greene.
numbnuts
So much for gentrification. There goes more of your inflated brownstone house values.
I live nearby and I can assure you that Lafayette & Franklin isn't "gentrified".
Wow, this is 4 blocks from my house, not comforting news. We need to take control of this area:
Please call the local Precinct and report any crime at any time:
88 Precinct Fort Greene
298 Classon Avenue
(718) 636-6511
And thanks, I know I live in Bed Stuy, don't just tell me to move or ask me why I moved here.
Getting a cab to Brooklyn may get a little tougher.
Every one should band together and watch each others back and not complain about the goddamned inflated brownstones . This is NYC not Osk Cosh bloody Wisconson
And to think just last week some fool who lives in Clinton Hill was telling me how safe the neighborhood has become. Granted the incident was east of Clinton Hill but not by much. Classon Avenue is the DMZ between CH and Bed Stuy with the 88th right there at the borderline.
I have lost count of the number of times I have wanted to shoot some asshole cabbie in the face. But someone actually did it. Live the dream man. Live the dream.
Too soon?
Nope. Too lame.
I can barely get a cab from Manhattan to Fort Greene as it is, even when I'm with a white girl...and I live in the REAL Fort Greene.
Fort Greene is roughly bounded by the Brooklyn Navy Yard/Nassau Street to the north, Flatbush Avenue to the west, Vanderbilt Avenue to the east and Atlantic Avenue to the south. Its main arteries are Fulton Street above St. Felix Street and DeKalb Avenue. The neighborhood is served by the New York City Subway at Dekalb Avenue (B Q), DeKalb Avenue (M N R), Atlantic Avenue–Pacific Street (D M N R); Atlantic Avenue (2 3 4 5); Atlantic Avenue (B Q); Flatbush Avenue (LIRR); or the A C train at Lafayette Avenue; and the G train at Fulton Street.
How in the world did this story become about race, blacks, baby mommas, black communities and families. A cab driver (unidentified) got shot in the face by an (unidentified) person(s).... we have no idea who got shot or who did the shooting. It could have been a stray bullet from a cop's gun. This story is so incomplete with no details at all but it doesn't take that much for people to start posting ignorant comments. Maybe if white law makers would make tougher gun laws violence in this country will decline. Sad, racist only look at one side of a coin! And even before this story it was hard to get a cab in Brooklyn, this will not help but it didn't hurt neither. I wish the driver well.
The intersection of Lafayette and Franklin is not covered by the 88th precinct. The 79th precinct begins on Classon. I should also add that where this happened has always been a scary corner.
Spear Chucker, it's really a shame that you even get to keep that loathsome handle. I wonder what Gothamist would say if I used a different racial slur for my handle? I shouldn't even dignify your existence by acknowledging it.
Where was BINGO when this went down?
flatbush Avenue is Brooklyn's "8 Mile". To the northeast is East New York, the worst part of NY and the Southwest is where all the yuppies and hipsters breed. Pick your poison.
Correcting your analogy bh, Flatbush Ave. is Brooklyn's Woodward Ave. 8 mile in Detroit is a east/west line of demarcation intersecting Woodward. Head south of 8 mile on Woodward you head towards inner city. Drive north of 8 mile, you are heading for Cranbrook.
You probably should have gone with "Nostrand Ave. is Brooklyn's 8 mile". Good try though.
Awaiting descrip of the sought indivs.
Not in any of the links.
All the best to the working hack, lets see the "pictures" that are being reviewed. Enlist the public's help in solving a crime.
And, w/ NYC having the toughest gun laws in the country, tougher laws would do squat. They shot some poor working dude in the face over an unpaid Taxi ride. They care about laws?
Shades of the late eighties/early nineties. This is such a bad omen.
