Why are there projects in this city at all? If you live there you clearly don't have a job, therefore you don't need to be in close proximity to the city.

Read Nickle and Dimed for a peek at how it is to be part of the working poor, and how difficult it is to break living cycles if you make only just ebough to make it from paycheck to paycheck. Compare the fulltime minimum wage (after taxes) to market rents, even in "bad" neghborhoods, and you start to see how the projects become a trap that the working poor want to leave but can't afford to.

Poor people are similar to non-poor people; they meet, fall in love, have kids, and work their jobs. This is the case all over the world, in every single country. It's not some black urban phenomenon. There are plenty of good moms in the projects trying to get their kids to come home early, do their homework, etc. Are there some crappy parents who have too many kids? Yup. Is that the reason that there is poverty in the projects? Not by a long shot. Makes it easy to dismiss everyone, though, as deserving it.

There are people who fit the profile you're sketching, just as there are people who fit the profile Snoopy is sketching, but it isn't a complete or even close to being a complete picture of the situation, just an easy way to dismiss an entire group's predicament by blaming it on the mistakes and/or bad behavior of some of them.

I know you didn't bring race into it, fenian. That was in response to Spearchucker's dogwhistle about people in the projects needing to stop popping out them there babies, which is standard talking points used for poor blacks but not when discussing poor whites. (And if you think he's not racist, read his user name, and his comment history.)

As far as your "fuck the poor" statement; if that's your sincere belief, well, I think that's a cold-hearted way to be, but I'm obviously not going to change your mind about it.

Falling in love, huh? Tell me, what are the percentages of black moms in the projects married? It's the same story generation after generation. I know you want to make it seem like they're just like everyone else, but statistical evidence suggest otherwise.

Here's a short primer:

City projects are filled with poor people, and in this country they tend to be black. If you don't know why this is, go to a library and look up the history of race relations in this country.

In London, Dublin, Moscow, Prague, Berlin, and almost every Northern European city, the projects are filled with lower class whites or, more recently, immigrants of all ethnicities, including white, who are described as animals who should just stop having babies and killing each other. Most, of course, are decent people who are trying to live their lives, and a few are dangerous thugs preying on the people around them.

I grew up in Vermont, one of the whitest states in the country, where lower class whites are viewed as animals who should just stop having babies and killing each other. Most of them, of course, are decent people locked in a cycle of poverty and depression, and a few are drunken, abusive jerks who make everyone else scared to come out of their homes at night.

Everyone, no matter where they start, should try to improve their own lives, and treat other people with decency. People who shoot at each other are assholes, but it's got nothing to do with whether they're black, and if you really think it does, I'd like to see you try to make it through a week in a council flat in any industrial city in the UK.
