Circuit City Destroys MAD Magazine, Vice Versa

phpcXKhdcPM.jpgThe NY Sun reports on a 4-page parody ad for "Sucker City" that runs in the latest issue of MAD Magazine. Circuit City was displeased to find the spread, which "pokes fun at high prices, the breaking of promises found in advertisements, and the employees who save sold-out merchandise for friends." Reportedly a "humor-impaired" employee ordered that all magazines be removed from Circuit City newsstands...yeah, don't worry, MAD's editor-in-chief was equally confused, saying, "We at MAD were shocked and confused by this entire incident — mainly because we had no idea Circuit City even sells magazines." After their removal, the issues were then ordered to be destroyed. That order has now been reversed, and the company has apologized to the magazine.

I didn't know Circuit City sold magazines, and I didn't know Mad Magazine was still published!

I saw that in Swimming With Sharks.

When did CC start selling magazines?

all current issues of mad magazine should be destroyed. ever since they broke the long standing policy of no advertising and having been bought by warner brothers, they have been a non-stop advertising machine of the crap they were meant to lampoon. bill gaines must be turning over in his giant grave at the atrocities that have afflicted the house of alfred e. neuman,

After Alfred E Neuman changed his name to G W Bush that mag has never been the same.

This is Mad Magazine's equivalent of the New Yorker Obama cover. A brief moment in the sun before it fades back to obscurity.

I haven't read the parody, but the description: "pokes fun at high prices, the breaking of promises found in advertisements, and the employees who save sold-out merchandise for friends" sounds dead on. Any item offered at Circuit City can almost always be found at a cheaper price elsewhere.

As someone who helps companies develop their sense of humor ... I'm ready for the call. You know, if you can't take a joke, then you're really in trouble. And, look how much attention it brought them... now they should get their act together.

Ah that quote from the editor is classic

MAD still goes on strong, well done
