Cheering for another team is no reason to be assaulted. Of course, going by Meathead Yankee Fan logic, there's no reason for anything. Going to a sporting event in this city, or even a Springsteen show where drunken assholes are constantly getting up for beer (& making you get up so they can get by) or hipsters are texting more often than watching the stage, is becoming less appealing by the day.

^ west side is right. If you want to see fan devotion all one has to do is go to something Irish that a soccer team is involved with. When is the World Cup coming up? I love seeing Brazilian hotties ravished and mutilated by well meaning Paraguaian soccer fans as they burn down the town. THAT IS CALLED FAN DEVOTION! Not a bent finger and being called a fag from Boston.

Snoopy is right I saw blood coming down busted heads in Italy from football pre- game demonstrations. These was two Italians teams at that, one from Firenze and the other from Napoli.

Clearly there's a lot missing from the story. Anyone who's been at the Stadium for a Yankees/Red Sox game knows that there are thousands of people there wearing Boston caps and/or jerseys. Some may get a little verbal abuse (and they should expect to be targeted during that one particular line in YMCA), but I've never seen one assaulted or anything close. And I've even been in the right field bleachers for a couple of those games -- with, yes, Boston fans there. Bleacher seats are the easiest to get if you're not a local. It's simply not true that if you show up at Yankee Stadium wearing Red Sox or Mets gears people are going to attack you. On the other hand, if you find a way to make just one enemy there, you're not going to have much backup. In any city if you're at the rival's stadium and insist on making that clear to other people, it makes sense to be good natured, and not to start trouble. Do that and you're one of tens of thousands of people every year who do so without incident.

I'm told sports used to be a fun way to pass the time and stay fit. Now it's just full of drunken a-holes beating each other up over a children's game. In 100 years, wine tasting evenings will be like this. Just you wait and see.

I find it very hard to believe that any Yankee fan would behave like a wild animal smelling blood. It really is inconceivable considering the well-mannered, highly intelligent sorts that frequent The House That Ruth Belched. Entering Yankee Stadium is like walking onto the Field of Dreams where only the game of baseball and the way it is played is what's important to the average fan Sadly, Red Sox fans are equally bad.

The retarded Subway Series could trump the moronic Red Sox— Yankees rivalry. I have attended hundreds of ball games across the country over the years—without incident. Now that we have wannabe gangbangers claiming "this is our house!" I knew it was time to stay home and save money. It is sad you can't root for the team you like anywhere you want to without the fear of getting hassled by some dickheads...

If there's anything dumber on the whole East Coast than the Yankees/Sox rivalry and the ensuing chaos everytime fans meet, I'd like to know what it is. Things I have had rudely interrupted by jerk NY or Boston fans: Stand-up comedy Theatrical films Baseball games Hockey games Football games I could go on and on. I can only hope bad things happen to anyone willing to get physical over their "sports." Or maybe one day they'll just get a life.
