Anthrax Probe Gets Weirder

2008_07_kkg.jpgWhile the FBI is being pressured to release evidence about why it believed government biodefense scientist Dr. Bruce Ivins was behind the 2001 anthrax letter attacks, salacious tidbits are being divulged. Like how he "maintained a post office box under an assumed name that he used to receive pornographic pictures of blindfolded women" (NY Times) and had a "decades-long obsession with a college sorority" Kappa Kappa Gamma (AP). Pretty much everyone wants answers from the FBI and Department of Justice--the former head of the biological-weapons section of Unscom writes in the Wall Street Journal today that anthrax spores sent to U.S. Senators had a lethality "far exceed[ing] that of any powdered product found in the now extinct U.S. Biological Warfare Program."

UNSCOM is an acronym.

Glenn Greenwald at Salon has also been raising some interesting questions: http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/08/01/anthrax/index.html

Good to know that such stable individuals are being vetted and hired by our government to protect national security.

Agreed. I can't believe nutjobs like this can get a security clearances.

One needs to understand how this administration has abused the power of the federal government.

Read Ron Suskind's book!

Suskind writes in the acknowledgments that his research assistant, Greg Jackson, “was sent to New York on a project for the book” in September 2007 and was “detained by federal agents in Manhattan. He was interrogated and his notes were confiscated, violations of his First and Fourth Amendment rights.” The author provides no further detail.

The ties back to the anthrax, every single bit were all circumstantial. The anthrax back to Representative Holt's office was not investigated. Map the locations between the two and you realize that this was the only letter which would have transversed through the Princeton Post Office!

Yet the FBI investigators did investigate!

The post offices for THAT LETTER would have been:

331 N Post RD
Princeton Junction, NJ

and

20 Palmer Sq E
Princeton, NJ 08542

Yet the FBI investigators did investigate! needs to be retracted.

any one would go totally insane if you had the FBI up your ass for seven years!

So quick to judge!

So he bought porn (that's only strange because you can get it for free over the internet). The "obsession" with a sorority hasn't been backed up with any evidence, yet.

Until we see some evidence this could just be smears put about by the FBI who appear to have driven a man to kill himself.

FBI, it's your move.

Listen to Rush Holt on Salon. He gave the best answer yet.

In order to snake out the rat, you need to get rid of the person at the top and that will happen soon.

@Politburo--thanks for the Salon link. This whole thing starts to sound fishier and stranger. I hope the FBI release information.

I don't think there are any of us who wouldn't look "weird" once every little thing we did or hid came out after a probe. Being into blindfolded naked women porn doesn't make him a psychopath (or else there would be a whole contingent of nuts out there waiting to kill us all when they're done reading their blindfolded naked women porn). Also, I'm pretty sure it's a not an unheard of practice to get your porn at a PO Box when you're married with kids.

And as far as obsessions go, who doesn't have weird obsessions? I know plenty of people with manias that we would all laugh at here, and they're not anthrax killers.

I agree with duckert, if you have the FBI up your ass for seven years, you're bound to go nuts.

Let's see the proof! They got it wrong once already, big time.

Don't forget about Jamil Qasim Saeed Mohammed was a Yemeni microbiology PhD student in his final year who had been flown out of the country on a private jet operated by the CIA in late October 2001. He had assisted Malaysian anthrax lab tech Yazid Sufaat in setting up a lab that was intended to manufacture anthrax.

The CIA has covered up alot of stuff such as TWA 800 for instance where physics makes the zoom lift impossible.

So as to what happened here, who knows.
