Verizon and the unions representing 65,000 workers are trying to avert a strike, as they have continued contract discussions, even though the contract ended at 12:01 a.m. yesterday. The Communications Workers union, representing 50,000 workers, said there was "progress" on issues like health coverage and job security provisions, but added, "Significant additional bargaining still lies ahead before a settlement is possible." Verizon is probably eager to settle things, given that it now has the green light to offer cable TV to NYers.

go back to work! you guys get paid enough. low level work at middle class salaries, c'mon.

First of all, did you even read the article? No one is on strike, so no one needs to "go back to work" since they are already still working. The issues at hand are "health coverage and job security provisions", not salary. To make those comments shows why you don't work for a company like Verizon since they don't hire people without a high school degree and that can't read.
Now about the article, the fact that there was no strike shows that both sides are serious about reaching a resolution which will help prevent any possible work stoppage.
I agree if you could read you would see we are not on strike...And our biggest issue is all the jobs they are sending to india so they can pay 5000 a year to some1 you cant understand when you need help with an issue...maybe that to is the reason the middle class man cant have the options we have because they choose the cheap way out. I assume you think its good for them to send americans jobs to other countries?????? We are fighting for a real cause one that u dont care to understand. In the future keep your mouth shut when you dont know what your talking about!!!!! My $27 an hour job is secure and helps pay the welfare benefit u are on so stop complaining
