Schumer Wants to Cut Off Aid to Serbia Over Fugitive

Still angry that a student accused of attacking a fellow student at Binghamton University is avoiding U.S. authorities by staying in Serbia, Senator Charles Schumer said the U.S. should withhold $50 million in aid to the county. However if Serbia turns over Miladin Kovacevic (pictured), it is welcome to the money.

U.S. diplomatic officials had asked that Kovacevic, who allegedly beat Bryan Steinhauer into a coma in May, be returned to the U.S. by August 1, but nothing happened. Kovacevic managed to flee the country when the Serbian vice consul bailed him out and gave him an emergency passport. The Serbian government said it would help the U.S., but hasn't really done much (apparently extradition is against Serbian law). Additionally, Kovacevic and his parents are claimed they are being victimized.

In a press conference yesterday, Schumer said, "That deadline has now come and gone, and since they won't act, we now will. We have now formally begun the process to put pressure on the Serbian government to finally act, rather than just talk.... We will ramp the pressure up and up and up until Serbia hands him over."

while we're at aid cutting, lets cut off nigeria too.

Offer them $500 million in aid and then cut it off until they disgorge all the scum there. Even the most cold-blooded nationalist garbage have a price.

let's not be naive about this case: the only way this guy is comming back to US is if he is hunted down and dragged over illegally by bounty hunters.

serbian government is totally powerless here. it simply does not have the political strength to break the law and hand this guy over, even if it was a matter of 50 billion dollars, not 50 million.

but, on the other hand, a large enough sum of money could very well recruit some very capable people to act and do it illegally. just as the vice consul acted illegally, presumably by the monetary motivation, and provided him with the escape passport.

Cut off aid to fucking everybody.

Going with Schumer's methodology, lets cut off aid to Israel for giving asylum to two convicted murderers/rapists who fled the US during trial. This would be in addition to the hundreds of International laws that Israel has broken since its foundation.
