Yesterday, a Canadian tourist, staying at a friend's apartment at The Heywood on Ninth Ave. and West 26th, was followed into the building and attacked around 4 a.m. The Post reports the suspect "followed her into the apartment and choked her into unconsciousness," and the victim "awoke minutes later to find her clothes partially removed, a small amount of cash, jewelry and a cellphone missing." But the attacker was gone; police tell the Daily News they think he may have been scared off by the victim's friend waking up. A resident in a neighboring building said, "There is supposedly 24-hour security but at 1 or 2 in the morning they're not there. They're sleeping downstairs and the door's not locked." The police are reviewing surveillance footage.

note to women: don't stay out till 4 in the morning.
ahh the sleeper hold.
@Gothamist Cynic:
I really hope you're joking. Is that like "note to women, don't wear short skirts and high heels or you'll get raped"?
#2 - next thing you'll be telling me is that I shouldn't wave a wad of $100 bills around in harlem while screaming "I'm Rich Bitch!" and that if I get robbed it's my fault. THis is a free country.
I'm surprised the neighbor knew that security was non-existent but the problem wasn't addressed. Did anyone complain to the building's managers that the security staff were asleep on the job while the building was left unlocked?
It's just great when one spends dollars for security and the stooges sleep on the job.
This story needs further clarification and description of the perp and the "security" team.
@Giulia Pines and babhitler, why don't you two try that plus 6 shots of whisky at 4 in the morning and see what happens.
this is the summer, peak vacation season, people are hush hush bout illegal sublets, extra copy of keys, hotels disguised as apartment buildings, it's obvious some people don't want to draw attention or rock the boat.
