Is the Montauk Monster All Washed Up?

While you were sleeping, the Montauk Monster story kept spinning, this time landing on PlumTV, Newsday and...CNN. In an attempt to reassure a jittery public, the CNN quotes "experts" who say it's either a dog or raccoon; some think it may have washed up from the Plum Island Animal Disease Center.

Newsday got a hold of another photo, which some people think makes the "monster" look much more canine (maybe that Corwin guy does know what he's talking about). However, Christina Pampalone and Ryan O'Shea (takers of the latest image, thumbnail in left corner), aren't convinced, saying, "Everybody I showed pictures to said it looks like a dead dog. But looking at the claws, and at the teeth in the front, it looked like it could be something else, something vicious." Newsday also reports that this isn't the first monster the ocean has spit up; one was allegedly found last month at Jones Beach, and one witness claims to have see it alive in the Montauk dunes.

Meanwhile, over at PlumTV they talk to the photographer, Jenna Hewitt (and friends), who took the original photo everyone has been trying to decipher. A scientist told them it's definitely not a dog, because its feet and eye ridge don't match up -- until someone can help them identify the poor thing, however, they're keeping the remains in a box. See their clip after the jump.

I choose D and the whole thing is viral marketing campaign for an upcoming movie.

The "monster" is probably a puppet a la Charlie White

Also here's Charlie White's website...

This story reeks...

That said Charlie White is kick ass...

There is some kind of weird animal in the Bronx Zoo's indoor jungle exhibit that looks just like that thing. Damned if I remember what it is though or know why it might be washing up dead on Long Island.

it's obviously Lizzy Grubman...

I really want it to be a monster. We're soooo ready for a real monster! We've been waiting for sooo long!

That said, I think it's probably a dog.

Who's keeping the remains in a box? Yesterday I thought someone took it away.

Should be easy to identify once it's on a lab table. I hope it is a monster though.

"it's obviously Lizzy Grubman..."

LOL

It's a turtle without it's shell!!! At least that's what I think it is.

How come "A Bloated News Story" isn't one of the options to vote for?

turtles don't have ears like that. neither do seals (what one of the stories suggested it was).

Funny how people are more willing to believe that an alien species
watched up on a New York beach rather than a dead mammal carcass that looks suspiciously like a bloated dog. Gee, which is more probable???

maybe it wasn't a dangerous monster... maybe it was friendly!

and yeh, +1 to the "it's Lizzy Grubman"

I like how the kids have it in a bag... so bring it to CNN and they'll do a live show with a vet -- get some DNA tests and make this monster a show...

I'll bet it'll air on FOX and Budweiser will sponsor it.

Judging by the offensive, repugnant features and the putrid condition of the body I'd say it's George W Bush. But then again it might only be wishful thinking on my behalf.

But we can still always hope, right?.

While I do believe we've polluted the earth enough to create such a beast, I think this is a hoax. Too many things don't add up. Mar-ket-ing.

Maybe it's something Lizzy Grubman ran over. Lizzy washes ashore next week.

I always wondered what happened to Madeline Albright

To those who insist that it's a turtle you should know that turtles don't have teeth.
