House Shelves GOP's Attempt to Censure Rangel Over Rent-Stabilized Apartments

2008_08_rangel.jpgThe House of Representatives tabled a resolution to censure Representative Charles Rangel over his four rent-stabilized apartments in Harlem. Put forward by Republican minority leader Representative John A. Boehner (just after Republican Senator Ted Stevens pleaded not guilty to taking $250,000 in gifts), the House voted 254-138 to table the resolution, which said Rangel was a "discredit to the Congress." Rangel, who had asked the House Ethics Committee to investigate his living/renting situation, said it was all politics, "I'm just surprised they feel it's so important that they bring down an officer of the Congress in order to get some attention toward the election. It's really sad that they would feel that insecure.

America wants to know: "Rent control? What's that?"

The man's been in politics for over 25 years, and is probably worth at least $500,000. That's just a conservative guess - he's probably got millions stashed in Bermuda accounts.

The lib is worth all that money, and he's still RENTING. LOL. Typical NYC liberal.

Rangel's finances are public record. If you had bothered to check, you would see that his lifestyle is hardly lavish.

The apartments in question are rent stabilized, not rent controlled. There's a big difference in the conditions under which an apartment is stabilized vs. controlled and usually a big difference in the rent as well.

I don't understand why a bigger deal hasn't been made about this. The man was using a rent stabilized housing unit for business purposes. That's against the rent stabilization laws.

It's up to the landlord to enforce the lease.

patriot yet entirely corrupt american legislator. should die in prison.

Gothampc (post #6): It is because he is a high-ranking Democrat.

he's hardly a millionaire and he served his Country which is the highest honor of honors.
