According to the LA Times, Bruce Ivins, a government biodefense scientist at U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, died in an apparent suicide. Sources say Ivins, who had aided the FBI with analysis in the anthrax-laced letter attacks in 2001, was going to be charged for the attacks.
In 2001, letters with traces of anthrax were received by the NY Post and NBC News in September (after the 9/11 attacks) while another sent of letters were sent in October, to Senators Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy. The letters are believed to have been mailed from Princeton, NJ, and five people died from infection.
The government had suspected former Army scientist Steven Hatfill, calling him a "person of interest," but later gave him a $5.82 million settlement after he charged the leaks about the investigation ruined his reputation. Ivins, who worked at research labs at Ft. Detrick, Md., became a suspect after his unusual behavior after the mailings (the AP reports he "conducted unauthorized testing for anthrax spores outside containment areas").
Federal prosecutors were reportedly ready to seek the death penalty in their case against Ivins. Ivins apparently overdosed on Tylenol and codeine; spokeswoman at USAMRIID said, "People here are pretty shook up about it,"

OD'ing on Tylenol is said to be an extremely unpleasant way to go. You'd think Ivins would have known better.
This has been a pretty fascinating story all along. The "unauthorized tests" were anthrax detection tests (and a little decontamination?) in various common areas of the facility. (It's in the Times story.) I wonder if that's all the FBI had or if there's more.
This story is intriguing indeed. I am surprised. I guess my head has been up my own ass because I had no idea they even had a lead on this. And here I thought I knew stuff about things.
And yeah, Peter. I agree. Tylenol? Yowsa. Doesn't that have everything to do with liver failure and doesn't that suck? I guess that's why he threw in the codeine?
MY EYES! THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!
I'm assuming the codeine killed him before his liver got destroyed.
so you are telling me that it wasn't foreign muslim extremists who committed those acts of terror but a rich highly educated American scientist who works for the government? and that's one of the main reasons why we went to war and are in this quagmire because of those heightened tensions that arose from the anthrax scare. Something smells anthraxy and it ain't the anthrax. Weird, how all Bush's enemies and co-conspirators have died mysterious deaths just as new information about the bush regime may come to light. Who knows if this scientist dude may have been conscripted by the bush regime in a black op. When somebody is murdered you look at the suspects, mainly the people who benefit from the murder. So far the only people who have benefited from the murder of all those 9/11 victims have been haliburton and the Bush regime. Those muslims hiding in holes certainly haven't benefited and neither have the american people.
Wow, babyhitler, that's probably the single, most intelligent thing you have posted on this site, ever. I am truly impressed. Is there hope that this might be a new trend for you?
Wait, so he says one thing that you agree on, and suddenly he's intelligent?
Fascinating.
Well played, babyhitler.
Well played.
At least he conveniently won't be around to tell us if or why he did it.
#6 Babyhitler - not too far fetched at all.
Who should we fear the most? Our own government.
#10 - I think your wrong. I think we should fear China's government the most, but our's is a pretty close second.
Ahh yes, the refreshing whiff of paranoia from babyhitler. Certainly, this administration has exploited terrorism to pursue a political agenda that has been harmful to America. There's still a huge difference between exploiting terror attacks for political "gain" and staging terror attacks for political "gain".
Companies like Halliburton have made a lot of money off of the war. They've made a lot of money since Bush 41 and Dick Cheney's DOD studied how private military companies could provide support for American soldiers in combat zones.
I'm not sure how the wars helped this admin. since they are quite unpopular. It's still quite a stretch to say they staged what led to the war.
I suppose I'll be criticized for this. I'm ready.
Oh, btw, fear our "friends" in Russia and Pakistan, too.
"I'm not sure how the wars helped this admin. since they are quite unpopular."
The admin. was delusional about the Iraq war to begin with. Remember when Rumsfeld predicted our boys would be greeted in the streets as liberators with showers of flowers thrown at their feet? They actually believed that crap. They still believe it today. The cognitive dissonance ringing in their ears must be deafening.
The Neocons have done in 8 years what the USSR, China, and Cuba tried to do to us during the entire Cold War. Sounds like a staged 'terrorist' attack to me.

Tylenol 3 contains both Tylenol and Codeine and having "experimented" with this prescription crap as a kid, I can tell you that it makes you feel so lousy that the only way out is to take the whole bottle and die before the 'squeeze' kicks in. What an idiot. they traced the spores to those maintained at Ft. Detrick so all they had to do was review the chain of custody logs to find likely suspects. This douche evaded indictment by cleverly covering his tracks, but at the end of the day, there was no one else but him. So he "self-adjudicated". Good.
