Princess Chunk Actually Chunky Boy Cat

2008_07_captchunk.jpg

Princess Chunk's visit with Regis and Kelly was very enlightening: America learned that its favorite 44-pound obese feline was actually a boy! The Camden County Animal Shelter had originally named the cat, found wandering around Voorhees, NJ, "Captain Chunk," but gave it the royal, feminine name after thinking it was actually a girl. What happened to gender-neutral names, like "Whiskers"?!

It also turns out Princess Chunk did have an owner: An elderly woman who, per the Post, "was moving and couldn't care for him any longer because her house was being foreclosed." Which means Chunk can be adopted by a loving, qualified person who will probably have to help the cat with sticking to a diet and any other medications he may need.

Hundreds of people have inquired about taking Chunk in; one man told the Post he and his wife would love to adopt him, "I love animals and my wife is a real cat lover, we would take care of her and any medical bills if she is sick." He added he would walk her with their two dogs--"She's big enough for sure that she wouldn't be able to run that fast to get away." Well, if he can't get Chunk, there are plenty of other wonderful animals out there waiting to be adopted--check the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.

What the hell is that? Chinese ebonics? Just like black ebonics, I can't make out what the hell that means.

^ Clearly you don't keep up with the pop culture of the internets. Time for another set of hammer curls?

The resident trolls don't seem to be up on lolspeak. IIRC, babyhitler or one of the others had no idea, either.

Obviously someone isn't hip to LOLCats....

it's like the cops who troll teh internets looking for to catch a predator.

That cat literally ate its old lady owner out of house and home.

It's pretty embarrassing that you don't consider "Captain" to be gender neutral, you know?

So wait, this 4 year old cat is actually ABANDONED to wander the woods after being in the care of an owner and having a home, for four years one would assume?

Gothamist says Chunk's owner was "elderly" while The (Com)Post link says "older."

So this was not an elderly woman going into assisted living or something. It says "older woman moving...", and this from an actual animal shelter employee. (I don't see at all where it mentions the foreclosure in that same linked article but I did see it previously in a Ch. 7 link.)

Soooo...It's not like you find out about a forclosure, and then the next day you loose your home, right? The owner cruelly and lazily failed to provide care for an animal that SHE had originally chose to have as a pet.

And I love the way the first paragraph immediately blames "the curent state of the economy." We must not blame an actual PERSON for animal cruelty. More and more it appears that we never accept responsibilty for ourselves or our actions.

Cats and dogs are loyal til death to loving companions. Not to mention other animals that we routinely dismiss as inferior beings.

Transgendered pets rock!

I'm not big on the LOLcats, but that photo/caption cracked me up. ^_^

[8] - I've read about people losing their houses to foreclosure and becoming broke, but living in their cars with their dogs. That's terrible for someone to just abandon their pet like that. She could have at least brought it to the shelter.

Poll: How has the 23lb housecat affected your view of the presidential candidates? I mean, who cares if its a boy or a princess, it's affecting our news media negatively. http://www.236.com/news/2008/07/31/poll_how_has_the_44pound_house_8043.php

The local news said he was a "stray" but how could a stray be so fat?

Ur other pets, I eat-id 'em.

Typically awful NY Post writers. First they write that "an older woman recently lost her home and could not keep the 10-year-old cat." Then later in the same article, "Anderch said the 4-year-old cat can be legally adopted" Little bit of a difference between 10 and 4, ya think?

I wonder if the person who adopts this cat will be putting him on a diet?

While our country is desperately trying to stay financially afloat in the face of a historically unprecedented imminent economic collapse and our troops are engaged in a futile war of attrition in the wrong country against the wrong people and we are being led & guided by a man with an IQ of 43 along with appears to be a severe learning disability ..it was quite refreshing to read about a fuckin' fat cat's sexual identity issues.
What a country, what a country.
