- Mets 4 Florida 1: Oliver Perez kept the Marlins off-balance enough to get a win Tuesday. Perez got out of trouble when it mattered and lasted six innings while allowing eight base runners and only one run. The Mets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but would have had more without some overly aggressive base running from Jose Reyes. Carlos Delgado had the big hit, a two-run homer in the eighth, in an at-bat where he flashed bunt. It was Delgado’s 23rd homer of the year, one less than he had for all of 2008.
- Baltimore 7 Yankees 6: The Yankees set the stage for a remarkable comeback, but they couldn’t seal the deal. Trailing 6-1 in the eighth, New York cut the lead to 6-3 and had two runners on with no outs, but they couldn’t get closer. Mariano Rivera gave up a run in the ninth, but New York cut the lead to 7-6 and they had a runner on with one outs. But, Robinson Cano and Wilson Betemit struck out to end the game and the Yankees now have lost three-straight.
